Above is picture of the standard speaker, The coil connected to the cone moves so the cone goes in and out to produce the sound that you and I hear.  The coil is between the two magnets that when there is current flowing through the speaker it makes a magnetic feild.

Speakers come in all shapes and sizes, some need a transformer to power.  I have tried making a speaker and failed.  It is very difficult to make one of these speakeres.  Why make a speaker thou?  You don't need to make one.  I have been designing a bass & treble pad that changes the frequency so that you can make your speakers bump just by installing this in the current from the stereo to the speaker.

Sub speakers are much different that regular speakers, even though they work just the same they have a hole in the back of the speaker plus a coil wrapped around a magnet; acting like a amp/and possibly and frequency changer.

Speakers use watts.  Watts are volts but they are considered heat.  So watts is heat energy that is formed through transistors and capatators to form the frequency sound that we all hear.  I say this was a good invention made...
