Friends are the flotsam and jetsam of life
tossed by the sea upon our shores.
We never know when we will stumble across
some treasure, to be enjoyed and appreciated.
We know that as they came into our lives
so too they can leave,
carried far by the ebb and flow
taken by the tide of life.
Friends journey to far off places
we watch sadly as they drift away,
the forlorn sound of our goodbyes,
bourne back gently by the breeze.
We can only hope their voyage is safe,
they reach friendly harbours.
One day, with luck and love,
they may return to us.
