I began riding in the fall of 1998 after my best friend, Laura Bagnall, convinced me to try it with her. My first lesson began with a lot of anxious nerves, but thanks to a wonderful pinto pony and Tanya's positive attitude, I soon began to learn all of the basics. Before I knew it, I was hooked! I started out taking weekly lessons and riding different school horses, learning dressage and jumping. Eventually, I began looking for a horse that I could lease and possibly begin showing. With Tanya's help, we found Nugget, a five year old appaloosa gelding

whose owners wanted him to gain more experience. Although very green, he was willing to try anything and we learned together. In the summer of 2001, I decided to try eventing and did a few clinics to prepare for this new adventure. In June of that year we competed in out first horse trials in Red Deer. Nugget was very well behaved and the experience I gained was invaluable. After a summer of hard work, we competed in our next event in August, going clear in both stadium and cross-country. We came 4th in our Starter division- a vast improvement from our previous competition! I soon discovered how much I loved eventing and that Nugget had a natural aptitude towards this discipline. The next two seasons we competed in eventing throughout the province. We upgraded to pre-training in the summer of 2003, placing 3rd at the South Peace Horse Trials.          I would like to continue to pursue eventing and eventually bring another young horse up through the levels.
