The Hits 1.
Artists name: Prince
Album title: The Hits 1
Release date: September 14, 1993
No. of tracks: 18
Top chart position: 14
Lyrics:
Album notes:
This album is by far the best of the 3 CD's in "The Hits/The B-sides". Not only does it contain some of the best of the hits on the set, but it also contains the 2 best of the four new songs on the set. A beginning Prince fan could very well start here.
Band notes:
I won't even try to figure out precisely who's on this album. I'll just make a note of the fact that Rosie Gaines sings the duet with Prince on "Nothing Compares 2 U", and does it good showing everybody how this song should really be performed.
Chart notes:
"The Hits 1" reached no.46 on the Pop-chart and no.14 on the R&B-chart, relatively good considering that it actually had to compete with itself in the 3-CD set.
Two singles were released to accompany this CD. They were "Pink Cashmere" and "Nothing Compares 2 U". None of them did well on the charts, "Pink Cashmere" reached no.50 on the Pop-chart and no.14 on the R&B-chart. "Nothing Compares 2 U" reached no.62 on the R&B-chart and didn't make it to the Pop-chart; It deserved much more actually, I think this duet with Rosie Gaines is infinitely better than the version Sinead O'Connor had a no.1 hit with.
