Dune's Stuff!

Release

The hideous noise echoed through the hall
The cylinder turned, ready to make it twice
He smirked as he pulled the trigger, but it was fake
He was afraid of the sound
He was afraid to take a life

I watched
Calmly
Quietly
Just watching

It was beautiful, really, the brilliant orange flash
The lead slug tearing through space with infinite velocity
I watched as it was expelled from the barrel
I watched as it approached
I lost sight as it came too close for focus

I felt the searing metal rip through the cold sweat on my forehead
I felt it peirce the skin as if it weren't there
I felt, and heard the cracking of my buckling skull
And I was thankful now
For I had finally been released

History

The old man's final day has come
He stares at the reflections of his existance
Silently he asks himself "Was it worthwhile?"
"Should I have done it differently?"
He thinks only of the past now,
For his future is nothing.

The old man's final hour has come
He sits thinking of his wife now,
Whose final hour had come so very long ago
He had never expected her to die
And it had killed a part of his soul
But somehow he knew his end had come

The old man's final breath has come
Again he asks himself "Was it worthwhile?"
The air was leaving his tired lungs for the last time now
And his wrinkled mouth forced a tired but genuine smile
"Yes" he whispered as the air passed from his lips
And the old man slipped into oblivion
