MxPx has often been compared to Green Day,
but Green Day doesn't compare to them!
BAND MEMBERS:
Mike - Bass & Lead Vocals
NEW MXPX EP:
MxPx will release an EP of "old-style" MxPx material due out 5.22 entitled the 'Renaissance EP'. In an interesting turn of events, MxPx's original guitarist Andy is in the studio with MxPx helping them record the EP, which will be released on their label, Rock City Recordings.
MXPX ON NEW SAMPLER:
MxPx's "Want Ad" is on the new "Real World" soundtrack, which was released in September. All the tracks were selected by the New Orleans "Real World" cast members as songs and artists that had special meaning to them personally. The song was picked by a "Real World" cast member who in a recent episode mentioned that the first time he saw a low rider bicycle was in their [MxPx's] video as he was unpacking his from a box.
MxPx: 'THE EVER PASSING MOMENT':
MxPx has released their fifth album, entitled 'The Ever Passing Moment'. You can hear clips from several of the songs on the MxPx home video. The new album is awesome and might be the best yet! Of the new material, long time friend, Stage Manager and Guitar Tech Jay Jay says, "its the good stuff from Buffalo, improved on." As with the last album, there are celebrity apperances on the new album - vocals from Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters, and guitar from Stephan Egerton, of The Decendents and All.
MxPx: 'IT CAME FROM BREMERTON':
MxPx has released a home video entitled 'It Came From Bremerton'. It is an awesome history of the band which has a lot of interviews, rare footage and clips from the new album 'The Ever Passing Moment.' The home video can be ordered online at MxPx.Com.
MxPx: 'AT THE SHOW':
'At The Show' is out! This live CD and has 23 great tracks- definately worth the several month wait. The CD will include songs from 'Pokinatcha', 'Teen Politics', 'Life In General', 'Slowly Going the Way of the Buffalo' and a superb cover song ("KKK Took My Baby Away", originally by The Ramones). 'At The Show' was recorded over two nights in August in Philadelphia, PA and Washington D.C. It was recorded and mixed by Bill Stephenson of All/Desendents.
The songs on the live album include among them: "Tomorrow's Another Day", "Sometimes You Have To Ask Yourself", "Under Lock & Key", "Chick Magnet", "GSF", "The Downfall of Western Civilization", "Small Town Minds", "Andrea", "Want Ad", "Middlename", "I'm OK, You're OK" and "Punk Rawk Show".
MxPx: 'LET IT HAPPEN':
32 tracks of old school MxPx. All the best tracks from the '17', "Punk Rawk Show' and 'Small Town Minds' 7" records and more. Bonus tracks from the "On The Cover" double 10". Tracks from the infamous 'Life In General' pre-release teaser are included. All of the non-demo tracks (over 18 songs) have been re-mixed by Steve Kravac. This is a must have for any fan of the band. Tons of live photos from the old days. 32 page booklet! A must-have for the MxPx enthusiast or new fan.
There is some division on this release, however. Through the contract they have with the band, Tooth and Nail Records was able to force this release despite their disaproval of the entire project. In fact, the band initially refused to endorse this release, despite the fact that it is selling incredibly well. But now, the band is endorsing the album and selling the merchandise.
MxPx is the band that made Christian punk what it is today. No other Christian punk impacted the Christian world like MxPx has. Starting the band when they were 17, Mike, Yuri, and Andy (their old guitarist) signed with Tooth and Nail Records. They hit it big, bringing a new enthusiasm to Christian music with their debut album, 'Pokinatcha.' After Pokinatcha, Andy left the band and they replaced him with current and better guitarist, Tom Wisniewski.
The band has amazing potential and talent. Mike is a great bass player and he's got a sweet voice too. He also is a great songwriter who is capable of writing some pretty snazzy bass lines. Tom also has great talent. He is a great guitarist! And Yuri, well he's a "Chick Magnet" if ya know what I mean. The band's potential is awesome. Each album has taken a huge step from their past album. Now A&M Records has signed them, so they will now be on a secular record label. They are prospected to be bigger than bands such as Green Day and Offspring, and believe me they have the talent to do it.
After there debut album, 'Pokinatcha,' came their next album 'Teenage Politics.' In 'Teenage Politics' they took a mature step from, talking about the life and problems of teenagers and how God helps us through them. Next they came out with a cover album of songs which they redid with their unique brand of punk called 'On the Cover.' Then the trio took their biggest step and came out with their most mature and melodic album to date, 'Life In General.' 'Life in General' talks about normal life and the ordinary things we face.
With the album 'Slowly Going the Way of the Buffalo', MxPx made a mainstream crossover and went to A&M Records. With it they have taken a big step from 'Life In General'. The album includes songs about girls, God, and problems. One of their songs talks about the hypocrisy that they face through fans judging them and saying they aren't Christian just because they don't focus all their music on God. The song states, "What do you call yourself? What did you call me? Excuse me but you dont know me, and I sure don't know you neither." This album is great if you're in the mood for some good punk.
Since 'Slowly Going the Way of the Buffalo', A&M Records was bought out by Interscope Records. This is why there was basically no publicity over the album, because the people who were to promote the album were going to be fired and they knew it. So, they had no real incentive to promote the album at all.
Since then, MxPx has released their fifth album, 'The Ever Passing Moment'. It is a very mature melodic punk album. With this album, MxPx has acheived more publicity. They have released two radio singles off of it to date, "Responsibility" and "My Life Story".
MxPx just keeps getting better and they'll be around for a while. Trust me, they're worth giving a chance. My girlfriend, Jessi, doesn't even like punk but she thinks they're pretty rockin. If you haven't heard them you can with the audio clips you can find through the link below.
