Happy New Year's everyone. The hip played two smashing shows at the ACC on NYE and NYD with a warm-up beforehand at the Horseshoe Tavern. New songs such as Music at Work, He's the Bastard, Puttin' Down and Drakes are sounding great. Look forward to a new album hopefully by the spring. I haven't heard of any rumours of a title or anything else for that matter.

It's been a long time since last update. The hip are now half done their Phantom Power tour finishing off most cities in the U.S. The Canadian Tour will begin January 29th in New Brunswick. The Toronto and Hamilton dates are all sold out. On Monday, the latest tickets to a hip concert were sold and sold out. A benifit concert for Camp Trillium is being performed at the new Hershey Centre in Missisauga. Rumours say after the Canadian tour dates, the hip might go back to some U.S. cities that they missed. A rumour of a Europian tour is floating around but nothing positive has been confirmed yet. For all those thinking long term for the hip, I have not heard of anything about a new album. However, new songs such as The Never-Ending Present and The Lofty Pines are in the making.

All I have to say is Phantom Power rocks. It's been a couple months now and the hip are getting increasing attention in the United States. I feel their time in the U.S. is imminent. Let's hope they don't forget the Canadians. The hip have said their Canadian dates will begin in early '99. Most people believe February. From sources I have heard they will be playing the Air Canada Centre in Toronto on February 22/23/24? Possibly three shows. Anyways good luck to das hip. Check out my bootleg list consistently being updated.

Well it's been awhile since I last updated this so here goes. The new hip album, "Phantom Power", came out on July 14 almost worldwide. Since then there has been some rave reviews. Some good and some bad. This new album has some very instrumental jams such as a steel pedal or a flute. Fireworks, another 50th Mission Cap has gotten the attention quite quickly. Currently, the hip are touring U.S. In the fall they will be touring Europe and hopefully in late '98, the hip will have started their Canadian tour. The hip also signed a contract with a company, I forget, that would oblige them to produce 5 or 10, I forget new albums. Let's wait and see. Congrats to the hip and good luck to them in the future. Check out the latest news at their site at www.thehip.com

The latest rumour on the new hip album is that it will be out in late June/early July. This has been said on the radio from numerous stations so this rumour is reliable. The other half of the story is that the album is called "Phantom Power" or "Phantom Powers". I am trying to receive confirmation on this from the hip and am waiting for a response. There was a rumour earlier that the album would be called "The Vegas Strip", but the name was discarded after a month of controversy. Hip fans are waiting impatiently for more hip news. There will not be an ARA '98 like many people have stated that there will be. However, there will be a fall tour and tentative tour dates will be known around late May.

Monday, March 09,1998(8:15 PM)

There are rumours that the hip's new album is coming out either in the spring of '98 or August '98. There are rumours that the hip are doing a tour at the end of March, and that a radio station said that the hip will most likely do a surprise gig. Other than that, things are pretty quiet.

Today, my friend informed me that on the Canadian rock stations in Toronto, Q107 and 102.1 the edge were playing non-stop live hip late last night. The music wasn't from LBU. The news is that the radio stations were continuously saying that big news about the hip is coming soon. I hope that hints something to you people.

The hip recently updated their page with new information but not what you might have expected it to be. They had pictures from the studio where the hip are working on their new album due out in early '98. Most sources have said around late spring '98. In other news, the hip composed music for Kirt Browning at a figure skating championship. Kirt got good marks for the music, obviously for the song which is called Antares! In the recent movieThe Sweet Hereafter,on the soundtrack was the famous lovely song dedicated to High Maclenen,Courage. Sara Polley sings the song. The hip also stated that another recording of the song Emergency from Day For Night will be recorded with Sara Mclaughlin's voice added. http://www.thehip.com/newone.htm

Today I scrolled through the hip's official site and it was updated yesterday. There is official news that there will be a tour in '98. It said on the site to look for news on a tour in '98. Go to www.thehip.com

Yesterday, news from 102.1 stated that the new hip album is being co-produced with someone related to the band Los Lobos, so there is a chance that some of the songs on the new album will feature Los Lobos as well. Just for reference, in the Concert Hall show's 100th Meridian, I have recently discovered that the song Insomniacs, a poem in the ARA Guide was sung in the middle of the song.

After recently receiving the Tragically Hip mailing list I have been informed that they are playing ONE more concert this year in L.A. with Los Lobos at the Greek Theatre on October 11.
"In the midst of this fall's recording session, we have decided to play one more show this year. Last week our friends in Los Lobos asked us to perform with them at the Greek Theatre in Los Angles on Saturday October 11th."
The Hip have also stated that they are working on a new album to be released???
"While many of you are no doubt heading back to school soon and/or lamenting the end of summer, we'll be holed up in our studio working on the next record. Anyone who made any of the European or Another Roadside Attraction shows this year knows, we are already well into the process. New songs such as Planet, Membership and Bobcaygeon are pretty well done and may appear on this next record."
THIS IS NOT A JOKE!

Just recently I have heard that the Tragically Hip will be playing at the Maple Leaf Gardens on February 24, 1998. Pollstar doesn't have the concert on their site and neither does Ticketmaster. Responses to my emails to the hip's website tell me they do not know anything about a concert in February. On the hip's website it says they will be off the road until early '98.

From official sources the Tragically Hip will be off the road until EARLY '98.  Unofficial sources say that the Tragically Hip will be playing in February at the Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto.   This is just a rumour.  Some say there will be a new album released in the spring of '98 containing new songs played at Another Roadside Attraction such as Save the Planet, Bobby Orr and Vapour Trail.
