Ok, here's what happened yesterday when I met Sting. It took us 2 hours 45 mins to get there, it was a pretty nice beach house in the Hamptons on the water. We got there a little late, and were told when we got there that Sting would be arriving between 1:30 and 2 (we got there at 12:15) So we walked around, there were about 50 guests there, they served hor'douvres of some tuna stuff and sushi ( I only tried the Tuna stuff). and we waited by the pool, and waited and waited.... there were only a few chairs so we sat on the deck... which after 2 hours got very uncomfortable... they kept telling us Sting will be here in this many minutes, etc, but he never was. He finally got there after 2:30 (the party was only supposed to last until 3) He was dressed in a sweater (wasn't he warm?) and brown pants, and he was so calm. They made everyone go up to see him and take pictures in groups of ten. But we wanted to get autographs so we waited till the last group which was a little smaller. He was very nice, shook everyones hand, told me "Very nice to meet you" (which I don't remember, but my friend was a little more less dazed than me) Then we stood next to him for the picture, I was on his right. Then my friend Donna asked if he would sign her CD and the guys running the thing were throwing a fit, saying no autographs cos they were short on time (maybe if he had gotten there at a reasonable hour!!! oh well) but Sting (completely ignoring the idiots) asked for a pen (which I had brought...) so I gave him my pen, which he pulled the cap off with his mouth and held it there ( all I could think of was "My pen cap is in Sting's mouth") and signed her CD, then I had my Sting The Illustrated Lyrics book, and Donna asked him if he could sign mine too , so I held it for him and he signed it, the put the pen cap (still in his mouth) back on the pen and handed it back to me. The one thing I did say to him was "I've been waiting 14 years to meet you" which was stupid, cos whats he really gonna say to that? What a crappy conversation starter... so he said "Oh, yeah?" So they hustled us away from the man, and then I noticed that (this is really pretty funny)...there were Sting teeth marks in my pen cap. (there were none before that) So I came home with an autograph on my book, teeth marks in my pen, and an autographed CD that I won by answering Sting trivia. It was an amazing experience, I just wish we had been able to talk with him a little, even a group question and answer session, or something. He was only there maybe 20 minutes. He was REALLY quiet but very nice, he had an air of tranquility about him that I found amazing. and very unexpected. And that's the story.
