This is my opinion about the characters of The Simpsons. There's my opinion on if they are good or bad, how they have changed and what their futures may be like. Enjoy.

HOMER SIMPSON

Well, what can I say about Homer? I mean, for the early seasons at least, he just about carried the show and without him, surely the
show could not have enjoyed the longevity it has. He is my favourite character and to some he is a hero, and why shouldn't he be? He
battles a mediocre life with a mediocre job and a challenging family all with good humour. What's most endearing about him is that
although he is clumsy, dimwitted, and lately, downright stupid, he is all these things whilst trying and even succeeding at being a great
father. It's clear he loves his children and although he can't really solve things, he tries his best to help his kids and his wife. Of course,
lately he has become ignorant, plain stupid, and obnoxious, but it can't cover up the past seasons where he was the star of the show,
and quite rightly too. And although he has changed dramatically, I think he has still retained a degree of that, not stupidity, but, well,
you know what I mean, even into the latest seaons. I predict Homer will get loving and caring again as Al Jean tries to fix the show, but
one thing's for sure - the future cannot delete the past.

MARGE SIMPSON
Marge to me is definitely a side character, or at least should be. When she is the star of the show, the episode just falls flat. However,
when she is a sidekick to Homer or anyone for that matter, her quotes are usually funny and her influence often makes the characters
around her great. Marge, actually, is really a underrated character. As a "guest star" character, she is really good and sometimes, even
her as a main character (like in Simpsoncalifragilisticexpi-ala-(Annoyed Grunt)cious) can be great. Unlike many other characters, she has
not changed during the recent years, but there have been many more episodes based on or around her. She will probably maintain that
"nagging, worrying, groaning" wife and mother image until the day The Simpsons is no more, and to some that's good, and others bad.

BART SIMPSON
In my opinion, Bart Simpsons can be either underrated or overrated, depen-ding on the episode. Bart has always been known as a
'hell raiser' and I think that reputation has been upheld convincingly and humour-wise. But it' s also been established that he has
emotions and cares for the people around him. This part of him has been shown on occasion (less recently now-a-days) but this part
of him is not only touching, but it can be funny as well. His care and urge to please some people can result in great episodes, such as
when he befriends Jessica Lovejoy. Bart has lent his star power to many episodes earlier in the series and season one mostly revolved
him in some way. I think, though, that his popularity has not only been formed by his renegade ways, but also because of his care for
his family and friends. Sure, he is 'hell raiser' in many ways, but in most all cases, its to help someone, gain one's attention or just to
have a little fun. Of course, the later seasons have just portrayed him as a downright devil, but loyal watchers of The Simpsons should
and do know better.

LISA SIMPSON
Lisa Simpson is the best kid in Springfield. Okay, before all of you overreact, let me explain my statement. Lisa is underrated in many
ways. For one, every episode focused on her is near perfect, even the ones in later seasons. Secondly, her completely contrasting
nature to the rest of the family brings many laughs and it helps us all relate to her in some way, as I'm sure we have all been through
similar things. Thirdly, the emotion she brings from being an outsider from the rest of the characters gives the show a new layer, if you
get what I mean. For example, 'Lisa The Vegetarian' was not only hilarious, but I know that I felt sorry for Lisa, even though I'm nothing
near a vegetarian :). Her emotion in dealing with everyone's attitude made her more human than most real sitcom characters. Because
of this, Lisa Simpson is at least the best child in Springfield.
