Puerto Rico Surf Trip
In October I took a surf trip to Puerto Rico to visit a friend from Hawaii and surf.  Altogether I was there for 11 days and surfed 9 of them.  My timing was so perfect as to border on storybook and I was absolutely and completely stoked!
My bud lives on the eastern side of the island, so we started out at a spot about 2 blocks from his house called "La Selva" (the jungle).  It's an interesting place to surf.  You have to walk through a cow pasture about 2 miles or so to get to the break.  There's a huge heard of cows and bulls that graze in the pasture.  Did you know that cows have big ass horns?  Me either.  Anyway, a guy got trampled by these cows a year ago, totally broke his back and all, so I was sketched everytime we did the walk.
One day during the walk, this huge iguana came running out into the path.  I swear this thing was 2 or 3 feet long at least!
La selva is a point break, holds some size, caught it small at first, but finally got it classic at about chest high the day I left, about 3 hours before I had to leave for Iceland.  I'll get back to that though.  There's also a beach break there to the left of the point that was big and really fun.  We caught it about 2 feet overhead the second and third day.
On the fourth day, we got up at dawn and headed over to Rincon on the northwest side.  We got a bungalow at a place called Rincon Surf and Board for about $70 for two nights.  Sweet deal.  It was awesome, a veranda, two huge beds, a/c, fridge, and the guy who runs it was knowledgable and friendly.
Maria's/ Pistons
The first day in Rincon we hit a spot called, "Domes".  It's a right point break that was about 6' or so on the sets.  Kinda crowded, but we both got a ton of waves.  For my first wave without a wetsuit in months, I got a ride at least a hundred yards long.  Stoked!
Got a quick lunch and headed to a spot called "Maria's".  Little did we know, but this was to be our staple spot for the next 3 days.  It's a reef setup that a-frames.  A bit down the beach is a spot called "pistons" for some boat engines embedded in the sand and reef in the impact zone.  The spot is big enough that you can spread out, and later we found out that we had caught it better than it usually breaks.
