CAUSES

Although the direct cause of Neural Tube Defect is unknown, studies have shown that the congenital defect is a result from Folic Acid deficiency during pregnancy. Folic acid or Folate is a Vitamin B component that is necessary for cell growth and production. There are studies that indicate that the disease could be hereditary. According to some studies, the disease may be caused by environmental factors such as radiation and viral infection.
