Little Bird

Little bird in the night
shivers from the cold
An emptiness within the eyes
a window to the soul ~
Secrets buried deep within
of her own private pain
This little bird sits huddled there
alone within the rain.

Broken wings that cannot fly
so she cannot escape
The nest that tumbled to the ground
and shattered in its wake ~
Leaving her now all alone
to battle winter's chill
She cries within the dead of night
and no one hears her still.

Little bird within the dark
whimpers of her pain
Tries to make someone hear
but somehow it's in vain ~
Rejections that just merely say
why no one seems to care
For this little bird who once shone
that's now riddled with despair.

Lightning strikes the sky above
she lays her weary head
Rain that chills her to the bone
where she has made her bed ~
Disguising tears that slowly fall
the cries within her heart
As this little bird makes a wish
upon a falling star.

Little bird, you're not alone
open up your eyes
See me sitting next to you,
I'll give you wings to fly ~
For I'm your shelter from the storm
a place where you'll be safe
Where you can rest within the arms
of my warm embrace.

Little bird, close your eyes
and let your heartaches go
Time to leave the past behind
so you can learn to grow ~
Trust in me with your cares
I'll throw them all away,
So little bird, with your new wings
you can then fly away.

Little bird in the night
safe within the love
Found the strength in her heart
that came from up above ~
Guiding her to brighter days
through the storms of life
This little bird now shines with love
and soars within the sky.

Although this poem specifically speaks about abuse and the scars it leaves behind, with the victim as the "little bird", it can be about any painful circumstance that has had a great impact on one's life. The painting depicting that the little bird is not alone, but has an other little bird beside it to keep it safe and warm....God is omnipotent and omnipresent. He is man, bird, animal, anything!
