Home About Flemish
Flemish Giants are one of the larger breeds of rabbits.  Many breeders consistantly raise rabbits in around 20 lbs.  Typically they will range in weight from about 15-1/2lbs to 18 lbs.  Many breeder raise their Flemish on solid plywood floors, but this will be labor intensive to keep it clean with fresh straw bedding.  We raise our flemish on a heavy duty expanded metal floor as well as solid plywood floors.  The wire works good with a wooden resting pad to prevent sore hocks.  Most of our flemish are housed in double stacked hutches with wire on the first floor and plywood on the second floor.  Our flemish live outdoors year round.  We have a large shaded area they live in which gives them shade in the summer  and in the winter we enclose 3 of their 4 sides with plywood or plastic to help keep them warm and add extra bedding.  Flemish seem to be very hardy and adjust pretty well to the extreme temperature changes we experience in Missouri during the spring and fall seasons.

Hutch or cage size should be big enough to house the flemish in a comfortable manner.  Minimum length on a flemish is 20 inches, a 3 ft or 36 inches by 4 ft or 48 inches cage or hutch is plently of room for a big rabbit to stretch out and get comfortable.  A doe with a litter may need a little more room as the bunnies grow.
