Role of Freshman Counselor 1.To be available to students and parents as much as possible. 2.To interview each student and discuss with them their academic record, extracurricular activities, interest and personal issues. 3.To help students who need extra help in academics and make them aware of the resources available to them. 4.Freshman counselor invites parents to Freshman Guidance Night to explain the resources available to their son/daughter at Queen of Peace High School. 5.To prepare students for the standardized Iowa Educational Development Test administered in October. 6.Coordinate the Self-Esteem Program for Freshman. 7.Attend workshops throughout the year on education, testing, careers and topics that are pertinent to teenagers such as, peer pressure, self-esteem, violence, drugs and alcohol etc. 8.To teach a Freshman Guidance course which meets once a cycle for the entire schoolyear. 9.Coordinates the Administering of the SAT's for the entire student body. 10.To discuss the multicultural diversity existing in the class and create opportunities and share ethnic values and traditions in order to encourage accepting and bonding of the Freshman Class. 11.To prepare Sophomores for the PSAT and discuss their career interests, future goals and personal concerns. 12.To prepare students in their Junior year for SAT's, course selections for Junior year and college and career choices. 13.To assist Seniors with the college application process, scholarships, financial aid, SAT's, essay as well as their academic and personal concerns throughout their senior year. |
