I know it so did matter That I gave my life this way I didn't run I didn't hide My honor did not sway They told me I would be going home I kept my faith I swear I told myself a million times I knew the World would care Then one day I saw myself Laying in a field Another soldier kneeling over me I'd realized I'd been killed I heard a Sgt call out " Get him outta here!" Then they rolled me over in some blankets With dignity and care A Chaplain at the camp with a Bible in his hand Said " It's Ok now Son to see God, I know he'll understand." The Funeral was the hardest part The crying and the sad My mother 's voice so tender as she spoke " Best son I could have ever had." My Father stood like I had never seen His face was sullen and tired On this day he will bury his son Who fought for the freedom he so admired There were hundreds of Flowers A few medals they blessed A few memories shared Some regrets now confessed "I should have stopped him." My brother John said " If he hadn't went and tried to be a hero, he wouldn't be dead." I wanted to tell him that fate had a role And it was my calling, I needed to go And Heaven is my direction , but I will still be Here Just close your eyes and think of me and if you listen you will hear Tthe Ocean waves, the doves fly above You will know that I am there sending all my love Written By: Ryan Kinsella-Harmon A Soldier's Call |
