Chapter 9 (cont)
They both were breathing quickly, trying to regain their composure when Brian looked up into Nick’s beautiful blue eyes. Nick was crying, tears creeping down his face. He bit his lip, trying to control his emotions but it was impossible. The connection he had just felt with Brian was indescribable. Not only did their bodies become one, but the feeling of Brian within him made everything completely real. He was so in love with Brian and so happy that his pain was finally gone. All the emotions that had built up within him were finally released. “What’s wrong baby?” Brian asked, his southern accent making the statement even more loving. “I’m sorry Bri…it’s just…” Brian climbed further up the bed and placed his head right next to Nicks. He wiped the tears gently from his face and pushed the hair back that had fallen onto his forehead. “I’ve missed you so much Bri…The past year has been unbearable, and now this…it’s just so wonderful…I hoped and prayed for this and all the pain….the hurt…the anger…it’s gone and all that I fell is…..Love.” Brian felt a tear fall down his cheek as he shared the same feeling. With Leighanne he had just been fooling himself. This was exactly where he was supposed to be and every part of his body and soul reassured him of that. Brian closed the space between them and placed a reassuring kiss on Nick’s wet lips. He wrapped his arm around Nick and pulled him close, wrapping a blanket around their naked bodies. “ I feel the same way Nick…Everything that I went through with Leighanne…I was just lying to myself. Now I’m being completely honest and I’m completely in love with you Nick…” Nick smiled at his angel and rested his head on his chest. Soon Brian felt Nick fall asleep, emotionally and physically exhausted from what had just happened. Brian sat awake for a few minutes feeling more at peace with himself than he had in years. He had finally found his way home.

A few hours later Nick woke up, not even remembering going to sleep. He moved over and saw that his lover was silently sleeping, a peaceful, loving look on his face, more than an angel than a man. Nick stared at him quietly for a moment then toweled himself off, threw on a pair of shorts and a t-shirt and went up to the upper deck. He stepped out into the cooler air, the sun just about to set over the horizon. Holding onto the rails of the boat, he stared into the open water, the cool breeze caressing his face. He knew that once people found out about he and Brian that there would be repercussions, but at that moment and for a lifetime, Nick didn’t care. He only wanted to be happy and Brian is what made him happy. Suddenly he felt a set of arms wrapped around his back. “Whatcha thinking about baby?” Brian asked ask Nick turned to face him. “Just about us.” Nick said with a characteristic Carter smile. He looked deep into Brian’s eyes, the beautiful man standing before him, his golden blonde hair blowing in the wind, the simple shorts and t-shirt making him even more attractive. Brian looked to his left and noticed the setting sun. It took his breath away as he realized exactly what the moment had meant. “Nick…”Brian whispered. “It’s like the picture…” Nick turned and realized the same thing. “It was taken when we had fallen in love..” Nick said. “ And here we are again.” Brian said before leaning up to kiss his best friend and lover.
