The 'New' Lodgers page
Getting money
It may not feel like it when you are first starting out but this is the easiest thing of all.  Get a silk backpack or satchel, have a look in the Order room chest if you don’t have one, or ask on the Lodgers channel and someone will ‘liberate’ one for you.  Kill things that wear nice clothes or have good weapons (careful there) and then go fence them.

If your skills are still not high enough to kill and loot then just walk round your town and watch where people bury corpses (please wait until they have buried them before ‘recovering‘ and looting them).  Another option is to go to DJB and walk round the inside of the city walls, as players kill and bury up on the wall, corpses they bury drop to the ground ready to be looted.

Another option is simply to search in every room you move into; most will reveal an item that can be sold.  Items can be sold in shops or, can be fenced if they are stolen. There are fences in every city and each specialises in a different type of item i.e. weapons, jewellery, clothing but they will all buy whatever you have to offer.  To see a list of fences and what they specialise in go here

Grouping
Don't repeatedly ask the same people.  Get to know the members of the Order.  If you make yourself known you will find it easier to get to group.  Don't annoy people about grouping.  It is very possible to get along quite well on your own, after all I am not called 'Cyclo the Lonely' for nothing.

Practicing spells
Practice, as they say, makes perfect or, in this case makes TM's.  Go to the gym when you have nothing else to do and annoy Dwimmgh, of course practising spells on NPC’s is better as it gives XP and cash too.  You will be amazed at the TM's you can get in the early stages of skills.  You can also practice contemplate, octograve and spellcheck all of which use GP but give XP.

Nickname all the spells
Another thing I feel is essential.  There is a great spell nicknaming alias at the spellcheck site.
http://spc.darkmud.co.uk/lists/nickname.php Use it!.  It will save you an awful lot of typing and speeds up the use of spells, instead of having to type cast/remember/forget Transcendent Pneumatic Alleviator you can just enter cast/remember/forget tpa

Alias's
by now I am sure you will be using them.  If you are like me though you will be wondering how everyone elses seem to work better or faster.  Experiment,  look at all the sites mentioned above.  Use Google (if you must) and search for them, there are lots out there and some of them are very creative.

Dying

If you don't have it done yet, scribe all the most needed spells to carry around with you, identify them at the same time –‘identify paper as (spell)- and put them in a scroll pack, again identified as ‘scrollpack’ created from a waxed paper packet which you can get from the stall in OC one room North from the market centre.  The packet should be carried be carried at all times.  In my opinion it should contain TPA, MWLC, EFF, JPOCT and be kept in your wizards hat…you do have one of those don’t you?.  Then when you then die, as we all do, you can simply get out the scroll pack and remember enough spells to get shielded, have some light if needed and get back to your vault/s or the Lodgers Clubhouse Library to relearn all your other spells.

You should create an alias that will; get scrollpack from (location); get (spell) from scrollpack; remember (spell) from paper; (if you have a quill you could also add – get quill from (location); hold quill; scribe (spell) on paper using quill;) put (spell) in scrollpack. Repeat for all spells.  I also found that leaving them loose in my hat was fine and caused me no problems.  Doing this will save you a lot of heartache (help is available if you get stuck; just ask on the Lodgers channel).  It will save you blundering around in the dark if you die at night, as all you will see are lots of something's unless you have a permalight.  It will save you time.  If you have not done it, DO IT TODAY

Need to know more?
Come and see me.  Ask another member of the Order.  We want to help you, after all you are now….. a Lodger.
