Citizenship
To obtain citizenship of a particular city you must apply at the relevant council office.  You will also need to find a citizen to second you.  Once you are a citizen you must obey the laws of that city or be punished by your magistrates (if you get caught that is..*Cough*).  Being a citizen allows you to vote for or against proposed laws and, if you are interested in politics, I would encourage you to get involved.  You can stand as a magistrate for cities you are a citizen of and some cities allow dual nationality

Housing
Houses can only be rented, you cannot buy them.  In certain cities such as AM only citizens may rent houses, in other cities such as Bes Pelargic anyone may rent  Available housing is notified in the real estate office of that city.  You bid for the property and can see the last bid placed and the auction expiry date.  Rental prices vary and are paid every Disc month, 3 times per roundworld month.  It can take a bit of perseverance to get a property and you may get outbid several times before you get the property you are looking for but in the end you will get one.

Once you have your property you can enter the wonderful world of furnishings, beware, it is very expensive.  Your house will act like a vault and keep items that are in, or in some cases on, furniture such as chests, wardrobes and desks.  Many players find great pleasure in owning and decorating their own homes and there are a large number of shops to spend all your cash in when you decide to furnish.  There are even players such as Kitiara that specialise in helping you decorate.

The Apex club
An alternative to renting a property is to join the Apex club in Ankh-Morpork.  You will need to be GL 100 or above and will need to go to the club to apply for a room.  The rent is cheap and is payable in advance.  If demand exceeds supply you will be placed in the queue and notified when a room becomes available.  Each room contain a bed and a wardrobe.  If you do not keep up payment for your room your items will be available for collection from the club porter’s office because they will evict you from your room.

Get involved in the Order
Get involved, be seen, make friends.  The order should not just be a place where you advance skills.  We are always willing to listen to suggestions to improve.  Do not make the mistake of thinking it must have been suggested before, or that people will think it silly.  This is your Order too; if you have ideas to improve it, let the Senior Wizard know.  If you have ideas for events or other fun activities then discuss it with friends and see if you can get it going.  I can tell you from experience that it is very rewarding.

Read the boards
I find reading the boards easier via the discworld website.  It really is a must.  It will keep you informed about all things disc and can on occasion be informative and/or extremely funny.  You may find the urge to join in and post irresistible, remember as in the Mud itself, bad language will not be tolerated.  Navigate from the main page to 'Playing' and then 'Bulletin boards'.  It is worth noting that notes read via the website are marked as read in the game and save you reading via the boards.  It also allows you to access the boards of the other guilds, which can also turn up information you will find useful.
