Reenacting the Battle of Inverlochy
(An English Civil War Society {E.C.W.S.} event
held at Blairquhan Castle, Ayrshire, Scotland
in July, 1996)
Although not the time period I reenact, I had the real pleasure of attending an event with Steve in Ayrshire, Scotland.  I was a Highlander serving under the Marquess (sic) of Montrose against the Scots Covenanters!  The event was held on the grounds of Blairquhan Castle.

During my internship at the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds, I lived outside York with my friends and fellow reenactors Steven Rutherford and Andy Hopper (pictured below).

Friends Steve "Mutley" Rutherford (R), Andrew "The Devil of Dewsbury" Hopper (M) and their friend Kirky (L) doing an ECWS event at the Tower of London in 2001.
(The tune playing is "Caber Feidh"..."Stag's Antlers."  This is also the title of the Chief of my clan, MacKenzie.)

(Hadrian's Wall at Housteads Fort, Carlisle)
The weekend was a blast!  I had a stint greeting visitors to the gaunt Victorian manor/castle in Gaelic whilst uncrossing our lochaber axes.  The biggest kick was slaying the rabble, Lowland Covenanters, though they (historically) outnumbered us more than 2:1!!!  Almost on par with this fun was the camp fire antics of Saturday night, meeting Gi Eng, and discovering the sacred nectar known as "Fraoch."
It's a heather ale that supposedly made from a recipe that dates back to the ancient Picts.

On the way back from the event, we took a detour so I could visit Hadrian's wall (Housesteads).  Being lunatics, we all stayed in kit while we explored the wall.  Obviously, we sure turned some heads!
