Visualisation

.
If I were to ask you to “visualize world peace,” what would happen? You might begin to conjure up some images, thoughts, sounds, and feelings associated with what world peace means and how it might be achieved. For most of us, the impressions we receive aren’t very strong and we can’t very clearly form the images in our minds. Some people on the other hand, have an amazing ability to visualize anything in perfect detail. If you are a member of the latter group, I commend you and will say that this article may not be as useful for you. My focus will be on the vast number of people who have some difficulty visualizing.

Still not sure which group you fall into? Try this seemingly simple task: Close your eyes and think of a perfectly ripe peach. Imagine this peach in every detail. What color is it? How does it feel? How does it smell? Take a bite out of it now. How does it taste? Is it juicy? Imagine this peach with perfect detail. Go ahead and open your eyes now.
How did you do? In concept, this exercise seems very easy, and for some people it actually may be pretty easy. But, for a great majority, it is difficult to see the peach as if it were sitting on a table right in front of you. Even if you were able to visualize the peach, read on for methods of improving your abilities.

Some people have difficulty with all aspects of visualization, while others may experience difficulties in only certain areas. For example, some may not be able to see colors, or recreate smells and tastes. Some often have trouble imagining people’s faces or creating an image in their mind of a place that does not already exist. I’ll try to address some of these issues in this two-part article.

Before we get into the specifics, you might be wondering why we should even bother improving our visualization skills. The answer is simple. Whatever you can fully imagine, you can bring into reality. By being able to imagine every detail of something you want in your life, you can easily attract it to yourself. Also, more and more research is being done on the mind/body connection every day, showing that you can manifest change in your body by visualizing that change in your mind first. Imagine how your life can be improved by working on this invaluable skill!
Meditation is great for healing your mind and body, nurturing your soul and getting rid of accumulated stress from every day life.
It's easy. Meditation is an age old technique that can take many forms once the basics of breathing are learned.

How to meditate:

Meditation is nothing more than slowing down your conscious mind. Our minds are constantly worrying about our jobs, children, etc and they can get too busy to function properly if this happens too often.

Here is a simple exercise:
The key is in the breath. Sit in a comfortable position with your eyes closed. Breath in while counting to 10. Do this slowly but comfortably. Exhale while counting to 10. Focus on the next number, and focus on ignoring the surrounding sounds. Listen for you hearbeat. You will hear if after a few mintues of silent breathing. This is one of many ways to meditate.
DIFFERENT TECHNIQUES
Seeing in Color
Seeing things in full color is a skill that many people already have. Many people find that they dream in color, while there are others who dream in black and white. The same goes for visualization. Try this quick meditation to see how easy it is for you to see colors. This meditation can also be done on a regular basis to help improve your ability to see things in color.
Find a comfortable spot to sit or lie down. Close your eyes and relax. In a moment, I’ll ask you to take three very deep breaths. With each breath, I’d like you to inhale through your nose, making sure that your stomach rises. As you exhale, I’d like you to breathe out through your mouth, letting your stomach come back to its natural position. Go ahead and take the three deep breaths now, inhaling through your nose and exhaling through your mouth. Begin to breathe normally as you allow your body and mind to completely relax.
I’d like you to imagine that there is a yellow balloon in front of you. This yellow balloon is attached to a white string. Imagine yourself grabbing the string. This balloon is filled with helium so you need to hold on to it, otherwise it will float away. As you’re holding the white string to this yellow balloon, take a good look at the balloon for a few seconds. Examine every detail of this yellow balloon and the white string it’s attached to.

Now, I’d like you to release the balloon and watch as it begins to float into the air. Notice how the yellow balloon looks against the blue sky. It is a perfectly blue sky. Continue to watch the balloon now as it moves further away from you. Off in the distance, you see that the balloon is floating near a big red barn. Take a good look at this red barn and watch as the yellow balloon continues to float away. The balloon is getting further and further away and you can barely see it now. It is heading towards a group of tall trees. Imagine the green leaves of these trees as the balloon disappears in the distance. The yellow balloon is gone now and you realize that it has just become easier for you to vividly experience colors. Each time you do this exercise, it will become even easier to see colors in vibrant detail.

Go ahead and end this meditation by taking a deep breath and opening your eyes.
This is a good meditation to practice from time to time to help you improve your ability to see colors. If you weren’t able to see the colors this time around, don’t worry. With practice, you’ll be able to see colors too! You can come up with your own variations to this as well, using common objects with distinct colors.
