How to Get Under The Playfield
One question that always brings a smile to my face is "How do you get under the playfield?" Usually people ask me this after telling me that they are experts at electronics or that they are Engineers. Don't be embarrassed! I admit - I was there too!
Here's the good news: It is very simple to raise the playfield ( a lot easier than raising the dead!). Here are some step-by-step procedures:
Step 1:
Turn off the power to the pinball machine and disconnect the electrical plug from the outlet. Caution: Raising the playfield with the power on will most certainly lead to you getting shocked!
Step 2:
Open the Coin Door in the front of the machine with the key.
Step 3.
Reach into the opening toward the top of the doorway and grab the yellow plastic covered handle. Pull it to the left side all the way as far as it will go.
Step 4.
Lift the glass lockdown bar straight up.
Step 5.
Slide the glass cover forward. Use both hands! Place glass in a safe, out-of-the way place.
Step 6.
Grab under the arch cover and lift the playfield up.
Step 7.
Secure the playfield up with the metal leg mounted on the inside of the playfield cabinet. You may also lift the playfield all the way up, perpendicular with floor. If so, please be extremely careful that it does not come crashing down!
To return the playfield back to playing position, simply reverse the above procedures. Make sure that when you lower the playfield that the two metal hooks on the end (closest to the coin door) latch into the holes before putting the glass back on - or else the glass lockdown bar will not fit in properly!
Special thanks to Professional Pinball Engineer John J. for modeling your hands in these procedures!
