Trang
Last stop, Trang.  We had an exceptionally creepy end of the year here.  We supposed it might be entertaining to stay in the MP Resort Hotel, which is designed to look like a giant boat.  We discovered that it wasn't  so much entertaining as just plain weird.  All of the details of the hotel, and especially the grand staircase in the lobby, were entirely too reminiscent of the Titanic, giving a pervasive sense of doom.  We couldn't shake that feeling of impending disaster, even though everything was perfectly fine.
The hotel was very dark and quiet and had a horribly abandoned feeling about it.  The words 'Ghost Ship' come to mind.  In an effort to dispel the gloom, we decided to look around the nearby town.  It seemed that the entire town was desolate.
Yup.  Just us and the abandoned ship.  We only stayed one night, which is no surprise.  I just wanted to get out of there.  I felt like I was in some bizarre dream; possibly one from my fevered nightmares.  We did not ring in the new year with festive glee.  In the dark restaurant was a buffet of questionable freshness and an entertainer on a dark stage singing for the two guests who were present.  It was just too tragic to face.  We retreated to our room, instead.  Sometimes you just have to know when to give up.
I've heard that Trang has some gorgeous beaches and pretty islands.  Our Titanic-run-ashore was unable to take us to such lovely spots, unfortunately.  But judging from the photos I saw, it would be worthwhile to go back to the Andaman Coast to see these beaches.
