Krabi

From Koh Pee Pee, we headed for the mainland at Krabi (pronounced 'graw-bee, by the way, not 'crabby').  From there, we moved to the beautiful beaches of Ao Nang.  The town was booked solid, and we were lucky to find a newly opened hotel.  This is the spectacular view from our balconey window.

As I was still recovering from my illness, I didn't do any snorkelling in Ao Nang.  It was really all I could do to get down to the beach at all.

That's where Ryota stepped in to save the day yet again.  In order to facilitate my moving around, he rented a motor scooter.  A dream come true!!  Any of you familiar with the greatest television show ever made, Chips, will perhaps recognize this man.

I was excited about riding a motor scooter, but terrifiec, as well.  Laugh if you will, but understand that these two wheeled death machines are clocked for 140kph!  Somehow I doubt that my very cute sandals and short shorts would have protected me if I were to fall off.  Besides that, driving in Thailand is just dangerous, period.  You have to be alert for so many unpredictable elements.  Guinea Fowl*, for example.

* No, these are not just 'turkeys' as some of you who are less versed in birdie stuff might have believed.  I get this information on authority from Susan, whose knowledge cannot be questioned.  She may well be the world expert on all things that fly, crawl, swim, gallop and scurry. Sue teaches me that these fellows are "...good to eat, low in fat, high in omega fatty acids, will eat ticks and other pesky insects in your yard, and are very noisy which will frighten away other animals and sometimes friends and relatives."

In the end we were lucky and survived the motor scooter rental.  We got to do a bit of sightseeing, too.
