Turning up the radio
as the lyrics seem
to capture my being
accelerate from
30
to
60
in little time as
my heart beats just as fast
and in rhythm
with the song
that captured my ears...

I was on Route 59
      How did
      When did I take
the 88 ramp?
      Maybe during
the chorus
      that made me so sad
as I yearned
as I imagined things to
      be so different...

Pick-up trucks passing by me
      I turn to look inside
as i lip-synch
      and the redneck smiles
his toothless smile
      I quickly turn away
before the feelings
      Of love
      Of sadness
      Of loss
and hope for change
fade from me
as the gauge hits 90
and I speed away
into the light
I can't let go
I won't forget
the face that
haunts me.
