Thirty-fifth Day of Spring, Year of the Bear. (Afternoon) [3/21/02]

Things are strange indeed.

I started the day by seeking out the temple. It sits in a beautiful park, surrounded by trees and a soft lawn. I gazed at it from the edge of the park and thought of what to do. Going within seemed like a bad idea at the time, so I contemplated it beneath a tree and said a prayer. Afterward I walked about the city sometime.

When I returned to the inn, someone else had collapsed. I saw the reason soon enough: Arnor stood near the hearth, seemingly to be alive and well again.

A guard, a man named Raen, was trying to take charge of the situation. It seems that Arnor has lost his memory; he recognized none of us, although NaShae was familiar to him. She was most upset, expectedly, mostly with the fact that it seemed someone had raised Arnor with the black arts. Treble did his best to comfort her, but her mood was extremely angry. Kal was dumbfounded. Raen seemed to think that is was possible that Arnor could be of the living undead, which was something that had crossed my mind. I offered to test the theory with my touch, although I expected Arnor to avoid it; he disliked magic and when I offered to heal him of a wound he had when I first met him he declined. But this time he was willing to subject himself to it, in spite of his feelings on magic. But before I could administer my touch, Kywyn entered and told Arnor to come with him, for they must talk. It seemed that Arnor knew Kywyn, but not the rest of us. Raen wanted both to stay; he had questions for both. Arnor wanted to go with Kywyn, however, and I was unwilling to force him to stay. He said that he would return to the inn to subject himself to my touch later, and I believe that he will. Raen settled with requesting that he, myself, and Treble follow them to the graveyard and return with them to perform the test. Kywyn allowed it, but Treble decided he wanted to see to NaShae. Raen and I followed them to the graveyard. They spoke for some moments, during which Kywyn trained in unarmed combat--impressing me with the power he seems to possess in his body alone and reminding me again that I need to get back to my own training soon. Arnor then left, and Kywyn came to us, saying that he was willing to speak with us at the inn. We returned, where he said something to the effect that he had met Arnor in a dream and brought him back. He said that Arnor had been in a gray area in regards to life. In short he gave us nothing real in way of an answer, for which reason NaShae was wroth enough to shove him. I warned him of the fact that he had told us nothing and that if the regime found out about this incident, possible through Raen, since he seems to me to be more devoted to the lords than the Captain is, they would most certainly try to get information out of him. Quite literally, they would wring it from him. He became sullen after that and left the inn. So I came up to write down my thoughts immediately.

This complicates matters even further, and I need support and counsel even more than ever. I’ve resolved that I will return to the park as soon as I finish my writing for now. Perhaps now will be a better time. The question of the temple’s trustworthiness must be answered. If it proves worthy of my confidence, so much the better. If not, I may join and try to keep my intentions secret, if necessary.
