Forty-sixth day of Spring, Year of the Bear (morning) [4/21/02]
Kal was leaving the inn as I came down yesterday. I followed him out and to the west end of the city, to a building called the Silver Sword Adventurer’s Guild. Inside, Daron (who seems to be the guild master), Treble, and a man who helped us some during the attack of the shadows were there already. Shortly, a woman from the lords, Treble’s commanding officer, the half-elf Tao, arrived at the guild. Daron seemed most unhappy to see her, treating her with a cold manner most unusual. She gave us scant information on the shadows and a proposition that we form a team and go from the city to investigate ruins that may hold clues about them. Daron, the man (Cassius, I believe), and Kal saw immediate problems with her proposition. It seems the lords aren’t willing to give us all the equipment (magical, mostly) that we would most need for any chance of success in another confrontation with the shadows--on their own turf, of all places. Daron turned her down, telling her to go back to the lords to try to negotiate for more appropriate aid, and chivvied her out. Natala and Kywyn had both came in as the meeting began. Kywyn said that Hermy had gone missing, so we went forth to look for him around the city. I chose to look for him far from the Guild, on the far side of the city. I was at it all night, but I didn’t tire myself much, perhaps because of the amount of extra rest I’ve been getting lately. In the morning I returned to the Guild to find that he had been found, and went back to the inn. Kal was there ahead of me, speaking with an elf woman, the one I believe is called the Frail or Lady… Anistrianna. I trained in the stables for some time. I wish Aria had been there; she seemed to be a good training partner. I wonder how that group is doing out in the wilderness. They’ve been gone for some time now; I can’t recall if NaShae told me how long they were going to be.
During my time indoors, I’ve been developing my combat style to be more offensive. I focus on the force behind my swing, hitting harder, but I tend to swing more wildly when doing so. Though my sword calluses are staying firm, I’m beginning to realize how long it’s been since I’ve dealt anything a blow when it mattered. The substance of those damned shadows would’ve simply shifted aside like smoke if I’d slashed at them. I enjoy the peace, for keeping it is what my duty is. But I must remember that it is necessary to strike what serves the Dark, and nothing will keep my skills keen like actual combat.
