| Story: Paris. Judge Frollo rules the city with an iron fist and tries to clear the city of the gypsies. One night a boat with Gyspies arrives at the docks of Notre Dame. They're discovered and arrested, except for one woman. She escaped with her baby. Before she can enter the church and claim sanctuary, she is killed by Frollo. He finds the baby, a misformed child, and wants to kill it too. The archdeacon stops him. He makes sure that Frollo will not kill the child but raise it as his own. The child, Quasimodo, grows up in the towers of Notre Dame and dreams of the city below. He dreams of going to the Festival of Fools. And allthough Frollo forbids him to go, he does. While the Festival takes place, Quasimodo is pulled on the stage by Esmeralda, the beautiful Gyspy. Because he has the most horrible face, he is crowned King of Fools. But the crowd turns against him and attacks him. Esmeralda rescues him and defies Frollo. Frollo tries to arrest her, but she escapes. Later she slips into the Notre Dame. There the Captain of the Guard, Phoebus, finds her. When Frollo finds her to, he saves her by claiming sanctuary for her. Frollo cannot arrest her, but it's a stone prison she's in. Esmaralda and Quasimodo meet again and he helps her escape the cathedral. Frollo learns of her escape and searches down all of Paris for the girl. He almost burns the city to the ground. Phoebus does not agree with him and is shot down while he saves a couple of civilians. Esmeralda saves him and brings him to the Notre Dame where he can stay. Frollo goes there too to question Quasimodo about Esmeralda. He learns that the bellringer has let the gypsy escape and Frollo tells him that he knows where the gypsies are and that he is going to attack tehm. Quasimodo and Phoebus go to the Court of Miracles and try to warn the Gypsies. Suddenly Frollo arrives with his guard. He has followed the bellringer. Next morning Esmeralda is to be burned outside the Notre Dame. Quasimodo breaks free and rescues her and a battles takes place around the Notre Dame. An endfight high above the city takes place between Frollo and Quasimodo. In the end Quasimodo defeats Frollo. When he comes down the tower and meets the crowd outside he is finally excepted by the people of Paris. |
