Chris Paradis Based on a section of T.S. Eliot's "The Wasteland" - stars Angie Champine as Marie and Susan Gray as the title character. This silent movie was originally shot on 8mm. The music used in the short is from the band Remy Zero, who have actually seen the short and expressed their admiration of it.

"Madame Sosostris, famous clairvoyant, / had a bad cold, nevertheless / is known to be the wisest woman in Europe, / with a wicked pack of cards. Here, said she, / is your card, the drowned Phoenician Sailor (those are pearls that were his eyes. Look!) / Here is Belladonna, the Lady of Rocks, / the lady of situations..."
These lines were written in 1921 by Thomas Stearns Eliot, the most famous clairvoyant of European desolation: a poet can’t resist the fascination of tarot. Someone believes that in tarot we can read a part of universal history and a fragment of our destiny. We are allowed to raise some doubts: how can the macrocosms, the bright body of stars, correspond to the opacity of our wrinkled microcosms?..... Franco Arato

«Madame Sosostris, chiaroveggente famosa / si prese un bel raffreddore, eppure / è nota come la donna più saggia d’Europa, / con quel suo diabolico mazzo di carte. Ecco - disse - / la vostra carta: il Marinaio fenicio annegato / (quelle perle erano i suoi occhi, guardate) / e qui è Belladonna, la dama delle rocce, / la dama delle situazioni…».
Così scriveva nel 1921 Thomas Stearns Eliot, il chiaroveggente più famoso della desolazione d’Europa: neppure lui, come tanti scrittori e artisti, seppe resistere al fascino dei tarocchi. Pare che nei tarocchi sia scritta una parte della storia del mondo e un frammento del nostro destino. Della qual cosa è lecito dubitare: perché il macrocosmo lucido delle stelle difficilmente corrisponde al microcosmo, cioè alla carta piena di increspature e opacità del nostro destino....
