My Tattooing
My Seventh Tattoo
Finally Gaining Confidence
I Believe In What I Do!
There is no doubt that tattoos are the best gift you can give to your pet! The recovery rate is a documented 99%, and I've personally experienced one of the dogs I tattooed being returned to it's owner - because of the tattoo!
I believe in what I do, and in Tatoo-A-Pet, the company I represent! I've had the honor of Julie, staying with me as my guest, when LCA had a big Premier party at Paramount Studios for the Animal Planet segment. Julie is a true animal lover, and has kept the best registry going, since 1972. I don't believe that there is a better way of putting identification on a pet, and someone is always on call at Tatoo-A-Pet's hotline. For more information on Tatoo-A-Pet, please click on the link! Who knows - even you might want to become an agent!   If you live in Southern California,  (Los Angeles) and would like your dog tattooed ... please call Julie at  800-828-8667 ...and mention Nancy's site!
II was at an AKC Show where there were Obedience , Agility, Flyball and Relay competitons.  I had Shadow with me and was asked to let her be the "Bait" dog in the Canine Good Citizen ring.  Shadow was perfect fot that task and had a great day, helping great dogs pass their tests.   We took a break and watched the other dogs when we were suddenly looking at a Border Collie with a very large tattoo on her leg.  I asked the owner where she had it done and she couldn't remember.  I left the show and could not get that tattoo out of my mind.  I started looking everywhere for someone who tattooed dogs, when I decided to look at my latest issue of Dog World Magazine.  Sure enough, there was an ad for a Tatoo-A-Pet agent.  I called and asked the usual questions that I am now asked.   The price was fair enough, and it didn't sound as if it would hurt my dogs.  I then decided to research even more and found Tatoo-A-Pet, in Florida.  I called the 800 number and spoke to Julie ... the owner and founder of the company.  She had so many positive things to say about the company, and how tattoos work that I decided to become an agent.  In a few weeks, I had my tattoo equipment and started practicing on grapefruits.  When I finally got brave enough to do a dog, I found a very calm Golden Retriever and my first tattoo was done within a few minutes.   I did my first 10 dogs for just the $10.00 registration fee, and got better with each tattoo.  Shadow was my 3rd dog, and I even added a purple musical note to her registration number.   I did one dog, who ended up being called "The Lucky Charms Dog" ... he had a green clover, red heart, purple star and a black musical half note.  He was later rescued in a raid, from a collector.  Because of his tattoo, he was able to be reunited with his owner.  I have since bought a motorhome and have worked at shows, clinics, expos and fairs for the SPCA and other rescue organizations.  I also work with groomers, breeders, vets and Schutzhund dogs.  My dogs are all tattooed and I try to encourage everyone who loves their dogs to have tattoos put on them!   Tattoos give your dog a voice!
Winnie let me do my 7th tattoo with very little wiggling.  She was an overweight Chihuahua, with lots of tummy space.  The tattoo didn't come out as nicely as I would have liked, but it was perfectly easy to read.  Her skin was slightly irritated, but there are no complications ... and no cases of infections.  Tattooing is perfectly safe!

In 1999, I was lucky to be part of an Animal Planet segment called "Hollywood Animal Crusaders".  Chris De Rose, who is the president of Last Chance for Animals brought a friend's dog to me about a year before, to have a tattoo and decided that it was something that needed to be publicized on TV.  What a great opportunity!  Part of the show was taped at Rikki Rockett's house, and I tattooed his dog, Lucy.  (Rikki is the drummer in the band Poison", and is an Animal Rights Activist, as I am!  He works closely with Chris and LCA.  About a month after the taping, there was a private viewing at Paramount Studios in Hollywood.  It was quite an affair ..... every seat was taken and I met some very important Activists and Rescue people.  Julie and I had a blast while she stayed with me, and it was a great experience!  I urge anyone who reads this to look closely at LCA's link as well as Rikki Rockett's (Animal Cruelty)!  We all need to be aware of Animal Rights!  Also, please consider getting your dogs tattooed ... you never know when your dog will be lost or stolen!!
Tattooed animals cannot be used in research labs!  It is against Federal Law to use an animal with a tattoo!  We do not tattoo ears as they can be cut off!
