Happy Valentine's Day A long time ago, Valentine's Day was called Bird's Wedding Day. That's because it was said that birds selected their mates on the second week of the second month. Valentine's Day as we know it today began as a tradition that began in ancient Rome. A roman feast of Lupercalia was celebrated on February 15. This festival involved the celebration of fertility and honored two Roman gods, Juno and Pan. Part of the tradtion was for young women to write love messages. Then all the messages were placed in a large urn, and then the eligible men courted the young woman whose message they had drawn. |
