Sniper

Sniper hidden with a ghillie suits

During an intervention, snipers are used to provide an adequate cover for the entry team. When police have to assure otage’s protection, and that policeman can’t approach without being seen, sniper may be the solution. In camouflaging themselves far away from their target, they can see without being seen, so they can shoot at an accurate target if necessary.

However, their principal function during a field intervention is often limited to destroy lights and watchdogs.

Snipers go by pairs: when one is at the gun, the other is used as an observer. According to the FBI, the average distance of a target shot by a sniper is 71 yards.

Snipers in action !

Even if police snipers act generaly in an urban aera, they still need camouflage to avoid being detected. When there are leaves, the Ghillie suits can be the more efficient camouflage. During winter, in snow, a white uniform provides a partial invisibility, and in the jungle, military colors are more appropriate.
