The Reel Deal |
This is the part of the program where we talk about Gabriel's latest movie deals, new releases, etc. (i.e. News). I don't post gossip so fuhged aboud dit! Ay oh! |
08/02/03-More new from the Gabriel front. IMDB reports Gabriel's latest project in a film titled "A Love Song for Bobby Long". The movie co-stars Scarlett Johansson and John Travolta and is filming as we speak. So much Gabriel to look forward to! 07/03/03-Still no release date yet for Grand Theft Parsons but there are a couple of reviews on IMDB.com from folks who have seen advanced screenings. Go to IMDB.com or check out the Sound Off section to take you there. 05/09/03-Found out a little more info about Gabriel's new movie, Grand Theft Parsons. THIS IS A SPOILER DO NOT READ IF YOU DON"T WANT TO KNOW!! It's a true story about a musician named Gram Parsons who revolutionized Country-Rock. He died at a young age (drug overdose, I believe) back in the early 70's. The story is about a pact Parsons made with his friend (and manager?) Kaufman. The pact was that whoever died first the other would take his body to the Joshua Tree (in the desert in California) and burn the remains. Kaufman managed to steal Parson's body and set if ablaze while still in the coffin but the police caught up with him before the actual body could be cremated. Kaufman was arrested and fined $700 for stealing and burning the coffin but not for setting his friend's remains on fire. There are no laws against that! Parson's body received little damage and was later buried in a cemetery. Johnny Knoxville plays Kaufman and Gabriel plays Parsons. A release date of Sept. 19, 2003 has been mentioned. 4/18/03-Just heard through the grapevine (i.e. the web) that The Recruit will be released on video May 27th (my wedding anniversary!). Good thing too since it crashed and burned in movie theatres. 03/27/03- Just heard that Gabriel is in a play called "Turnaround". It's playing at the Coast Theater in West Hollywood (I'm in NY, damn it!). That's the good news. The bad news is the show is closing on 03/30/03. Tickets are $30 and going fast. The theater only seats about 70 so you'd better hurry up if you want to see this little ditty. To read a review of this play see the "Sound Off" section. 03/24/03-In this cornah, wearing the orange trunks of the California Women's Correctional Facility is Queen Latifah, representing the movie "Bringing Down The House". Aaaand in the other cornah, wearing the black trunks of the CIA is Colin Farrell, representing the movie "The Recruit". The bell rings...aaaand Latifah comes out swinging! Oooh, Farrell tries to duck but Latifah knocks him to the mat by earning $16.2 million in her 3rd week in theatres. And Farrell's fading fast...yup, Farrell's down for the count. The Recruit is now in 19th place at the box office having earned a mere $686,000.00 in it's 7th week in theatres. Looks like it's not going to be shown for much longer since the number of theatres showing the film has dropped from 1700 last week to 640. And that's the Reel Deal for today... 03/17/03- Happy St. Patrick's Day! Hate to give you bad news on such a jolly day but The Recruit has dropped to 15th place at the box office earning $1.3 million in it's 6th week in theaters making it's total income just shy of $51 million. Time for some green beer (hiccup)! 03/10/03-Oh, the humanity! The Recruit has taken a nose dive to 12th place after it's 5th week in theaters, taking in $1.4 million and bringing the gross income to $50.3 million. On the brighter side it looks like the movie is scheduled to be released on video sometime in June 2003. Hopefully it can make a comeback in video sales. 03/03/03-In it's 4th week in theaters The Recruit is holding at 10th place, having earned $2.6 million with a gross return of $48 million. As for The Recruit prop auction on Ebay it looks like there are some Gabriel fans out there who have bought everything belonging to his character. Sorry ladies, you snooze you lose. 02/24/03-After 3 full weeks in theaters The Recruit fell to 10th place at the box office and earned $3,414,899.00, making it's gross return so far $44,330,457.00. On another note, Premier Props, the company used for the props and costuming of the movie, is auctioning off a number of items from the film on Ebay. Want to own the clothes Gabriel wore in the movie? Currently "Zack's Outfit" is at a price of $127.50. Go for it, ladies! 02/17/03-The Recruit fell to 6th place at the box office and earned $6.8 million in it's second week. The number 1 film was Daredevil raking in $48 million + it's opening weekend. Think Ben Affleck is giving Al Pacino a big "Hoo Ah!" right about now? 02/10/03-After it's first full week in theaters, The Recruit slipped to 4th and earned $9.5 Million, making it's total income $30 Million since it opened on 01/31/03. 02/03/03-The numbers for the opening weekend of The Recruit show that it was ranked #1 and took in $16.5 million. Not bad until you look at the numbers for Final Destination 2, which took in $16.2 million and was ranked #2. Pretty pathetic when a second rate sequel comes that close to an Al Pacino movie. Lets see what happens in the weeks to come. I read on IMDB.com that Grand Theft Parsons (the new comedy Gabriel's co-starring in with Johnny Knoxville) is in production. Some gal posted on the site that she saw it and thought it was very funny. She called it a "powerhouse". Hmm...it's hard to imagine anything with Johnny Knoxville being described as a "powerhouse", but I still can't wait to see Gabriel in a comedy. She also tauted the production, script and entire cast. I'm going to try to get in touch with her to get the shcoombadee (which means scoop in New York talk-we like to make up our own words around here). 01/31/03 The Recruit opens in theaters nationwide. I'm going next week with friends and will post a review then. 01/28/03 The Recruit premiers in Los Angeles. Check out WireImages.com for some cool pics of Gabriel and the rest of the cast (Al what's-his-name, Puccini? Pistachio? and that Irish guy that everyone's talking about...Colin Powell). Joking! 11/12/02 Bad Company is released on DVD. I have my copy, do you? |
