Graph Showing Copper Ore Production

Production Of Ore
Based on  Figures in
Cornish Mines
University of Exeter
Burt,Waite and Burnley

Some key facts from the output of Ore 1845-1886
  • Total produced this period 201934 tons
  • Average 4808 tonnes per year
  • Maximum 6706 in 1870
  • Maximum value £5707.40 in 1864

The mine obtained the maximum money from sales  six years before the tonnage peaked.
This gap was caused by the falling copper prices  in Cornwall.

Employment Figures for the years 1878 to 1885
  • Average  358 employees
  • Maximum 422 in 1880
  • Average production of 13.8 tons of Ore per employee

Relative size of the successful Caradon Mines Chart of Copper Ore production of Mines in area The figures are based on the maximum annual production for each mine. That is its peak output.
However, South Caradon had a longer productive life at, or near its peak performance. It therefore raised a far greater quantity of Ore than its neighbours over its whole life span
No public right away exists to any of the mine sites visible from this footpath.
On many mine sites in Cornwall dangers may still exist, many hidden.
This web site is published as a resource to those using the public right of way.
