The telecommunications division would focus on developing Internet and e-commerce business opportunities which rode on the efficient broadband fibre-optic network of the group. The Star 18/2/00 - Time Engineering Bhd unit Time dotCom Bhd has signed a MoU with Nasdaq-listed Pacific Internet Ltd (PacNet) to provide both narrow and broadband Internet services in Malaysia. This collaboration with Singapore-based PacNet represents yet another move by Time dotCom to realise its vision of becoming Malaysia's leading Internet service provider (third after Jaring and Tmnet). Sources close to Time dotCom said the joint-venture company TimeISP would go for listing on the Malaysian Exchange for Securities Dealing and Automated Quotation (MESDAQ) soon, and PacNet would take a 20% equity stake in the company. PacNet CEO Nicholas Lee said of the joint-venture with Time dotCom:"We are very excited about this new joint-venture as we believe that Time dotCom has the potential of becoming an aggressive Internet company in Malaysia with its existing customer base, its advanced fibre optic network and extensive wireless network. Working together, we will be able to deliver world-class Internet and e-commerce serves to the Malaysia community". |
