They are Incapable of turning away when times are tough, and life's problems seem hard to bear. Instead they, Encourage each other so they can enjoy the good times & find strength to endure the bad times. They're Never afraid to say what they feel and can be honest without causing hurt or pain. | ... and then in 1998 I was experiencing pain in the same area of my left breast. So again I went for a check up. The look was back on the faces of the of the technicians. It was a Friday morning and we had to wait the entire weekend to see a surgeon. I had no fingernail left on my hands. I even took some valium to calm down. The first time I had insitu carcinoma and the second time Lobular was added. I had a double mastectomy. They put an expander in my chest to stretch the skin. I went for 8 treatments of chemo. One every three weeks. I lost most of my hair and tolerated it very well. But, I gain 65 lbs. My husband and daughter were terrific. Mind you my daughter was only four years old at the time. Then one day my neighbor came home and she invited me to go to a breast cancer support group. I really didn't want to go. I thought, "hey, I don't need this." I'm really o.k. with it. But grudgingly I went. Well, right after the first meeting I booked my reconstruction appointment. I finally had the courage to choose the right procedure for myself. The doctors took the rectus abdominal muscles and fat (thank goodness), and rebuilt my boobies. I had the strength, courage, love, and support not only by my husband and daughter, but of this wonderful group of strong women called "Your Bosom Buddies II" In fact, I became best friends with one of the founders, Tee. Now we consider ourselves sisters. I am forever grateful for this group and how it has transformed me to grow as a person and to overcome the negatives I've felt from this entire ordeal. Many procedures and 4 operations, never thinking anything else, I knew the routine. At the age of the Big 50, I was told cancer. What a surprise!! Like everyone stricken with this horrible disease, I was upset, shocked, angry and depressed. What a world!! After many discussions, and they weren't easy, I realized the need to educate myself on Breast Cancer. I went to every support group possible, came home, feeling even more devastated. It was then I swore any survivor who needed my help, knowledge or strength to fight this horrible disease, would get my attention... Finally, I visited a group in Kendall, where they were celebrating life... Boy, what feeling to actually celebrate a miracle. That was the energy needed. Welcome to Your Bosom Buddies.
