Upon meeting back up with the group, Lee Mun, changed his tone. Instead of helping to add good words for Yeung Lan Ling he decided to inform Cheung Sam Long that Yeung Lan Ling had infact planned to eliminate Ngai Kwong Jai by tricking them to leave. At once Cheung Sam Long became furious. Later Cheung Chut Chun arrived to inform Cheung Sam Long that Yeung Lan Ling was going to marry the Tak Kuet prince. At once Cheung Ngow Gum wanted to murder her before she reached Tak Keut. Cheung Sam Long was against the idea, not wanting to cause further loss of life amongst the group. Ching Ngow Gum and the others were extremely angry at Cheung Sam Long who left. Lee Mun took this opportunity to led the group in the hope that he would succeed and become the new leader of Ngai Kwong Jai. News about Yeung Lan Ling's marriage also reached Lee Sai Mun who went to the palace with Cheung Sin Mo Kau to investigate. Yee Mun Fai Kap did not allow Lee Sai Mun to visit Yeung Lan Ling so Cheung Son Mo Kau visited her. From the meeting, Cheung Sin Mo Kau, realized that Yeung Lan Ling was being forced to marry against her will. She immediately set out to request the help of Cheung Sam Long. At the same time Cheung Chut Chun did not believe that Yeung Lan Ling was such an evil person and convinced Cheung Sam Long to rescue her so that the entire truth would be uncovered. As Cheung Sam Long was leaving Cheung Sin Mo Kau arrived to inform him of her visit. Cheung Sin Mo Kau's information, further confirmed the fact that Cheung Sam Long needed to save Yeung Lan Ling to uncover the truth.

As they left to rescue Yeung Lan Ling, Lee Seung Yee, attempted to stop them by using delay tactics. Cheung Sin Mo Kau knew what Lee Seung Yee had been up to and managed to drug her. Cheung Sin Mo Kau then stayed to look after Lee Seung Yee as Cheung Sam Long went to rescue Yeung Lan Ling. As he arrived Yeung Lan Ling was ambushed by Lee Mun, Ching Ngow Gum, Chun Keng and the others. Cheung Sam Long intervenes and took Yeung Lan Ling away to safety. As they sheltered in a cave Yeung Lan Ling once more stated that she did not kill Chun Wai Leung, and Bak Mao Dan. Further she stated that she did not poison Lee Seung Yee. She then informed Cheung Sam Long that in all of those incidents besides herself, Lee Seung Yee was also present. Therefore Lee Seung Yee should be a suspect as much as herself. Yeung Lan Ling the informed Cheung Sam Long that she saw Lee Seung Yee attempting to murder Chun Wai Leung before she intervened. Yeung Lan Ling then took Cheung Sam Long to Shaolin were Cheung Sam Long discovered that Lee Seung Yee had infact lied about her past. Despite this Cheung Sam Long still believed Lee Seung Yee. Yeung Lan Ling left as Cheung Sam Long refused to run away with her. Cheung Sam Long returned to Ngai Kwong Jai and sought the help of Cheung Chut Chun to uncover the truth. Upon his return Ching Ngow Gum became angry when he discovered that Cheung Sam Long had saved Yeung Lan Ling. Ching Ngow Gum slashed a strike at Cheung Sam Long which was blocked by Lee Seung Yee. From that moment Cheung Sam Long realized that Lee Seung Yee was indeed a suspect performing the act to gain his trust.

Soon Cheung Sam Long and Cheung Chut Chun did find evidence that Lee Seung Yee was spying on them. Every night they secretly spied on Lee Seung Yee to see who she had collaborated with. Cheung Sam Long initially thought that it was Yeung Guo, but Cheung Chut Chun suspected that someone else from Ngai Kwong Jai must be involved. One night Ching Ngow Gum and Chun Keng followed them and thought that Cheung Sam Long was having an affair with Cheung Chut Chun. At once they informed Sak Kau who asked Cheung Sam Long to leave. He refused and charged at Sak Kau in front of all the men, until Lee Mun arrived to restrain him. Later that evening two masked figures attacked and killed Sak Kau. Cheung Sam Long heard some noise and went to investigate. He found Sak Kau lying on the floor and went to examine it. As he did Lee Mun arrived with the others to accuse him of the murder. Cheung Sam Long and Cheung Chut Chun then became surrounded. Lee Jing would then arrive at Ngai Kwong Jai accusing his wife of committing an affair and slapped her. He then ordered the others to attack Cheung Sam Long and Cheung Chut Chun who ran for their lives. Luckily for them Lee Sai Mun was passing through the river and rescued them with his small boat. Lee Sai Mun then provide a safe house for both of them to stay. At the same time Cheung Sin Mo Kau arrived with Yeung Lan Ling, who she rescued from the clutches of Yee Mun Fai Kap. After several arguments, Cheung Sam Long and Yeung Lan Ling made peace and got back together as Cheung Sam Long finally believed that Yeung Lan Ling was telling him the truth. Both had been framed for crimes that they did not commit. The following day Yeung Lan Ling agreed to help Cheung Sam Long and Cheung Chut Chun to raise an army to deal with Yeung Guo.

Meanwhile Lee Mun was elected as the new leader of Ngai Kwong Jai. As time passed Lee Jing was to distressed, thinking that Cheung Chut Chun had an affair with Cheung Sam Long that he refused to train the troops and spent days drinking with Ching Ngow Gum. When Lee Mun discovered this he was furious but hoped that Lee Jing would gain self control. But as time pass Lee Jing did nothing but drink which angered everyone including Chun Keng and Ching Ngow Gum. One day when Lee Jing was drinking he was captured by Yee Mun Fai Kap. But instead of killing him, Yee Mun Fai Kap, wanted to use Lee Jing as an informant at Ngai Kwong Jai. Lee Jing was suddenly interested in the fact that there was a traitor at Ngai Kwong Jai and he agreed to help Yee Mun Fai Kap. Lee Jing wanted to know who the traitor was so he returned to Ngai Kwong Jai and promised Yee Mun Fai Kap that he would no longer drink and make a mess of himself. At the same time Yee Mun Fai Kap was angry as his wife, Fai Sau Cum, was taken into the palace to work for the Queen. Yee Mun Fai Kap loved his wife but he realized that his wife had an affair with Yeung Guo so he vowed to one day eliminate him. Later Lee Jing returned to Ngai Kwong Jai, all fresh and ready for action. At the same time Ching Ngow Gum and Chun Keng discovered Cheung Sam Long, Cheung Chut Chun and Yeung Lan Ling raising an army close by. The immediately informed Lee Mun who handed the task of killing Cheung Sam Long over to Lee Jing. That evening a masked man visited Lee Jing, who was sent by Yee Mun Fai Kap. Strangely the masked man also ordered Lee Jing to kill Cheung Sam Long.

The following days Lee Jing trained the men and planned to deal with Cheung Sam Long. Lee Seung begged Lee Jing not to attack Cheung Sam Long but he refused so she escaped to warn him. Lee Jing knew that Lee Seung Yee had some information regarding the death of Sak Kau to share with him but decided to let her go and out smart her. Lee Seung Yee met up with Cheung Chut Chun and Yeung Lan Ling, who were then ambushed. Cheung Chut Chun and Yeung Lan Ling thought that Lee Seung Yee had tricked them into falling into the trap. Lee Jing then captured Cheung Chut Chun to force Cheung Sam Long to return to Ngai Kwong Jai to face death. Knowing this Yeung Lan Ling captured General Dau, with the help of Mo Ming Do Yan and used him to capture Lee Mun. Once Cheung Sam Long found out what Yeung Lan Ling had done he immediately ordered Yeung Lan Ling to release Lee Mun. Yeung Lan Ling did so, and surprisingly Lee Mun agreed to release Cheung Chut Chun. Upon returning to Ngai Kwong Jai, Lee Mun, released Cheung Chut Chun, much to disgust of the others. It was then revealed that Lee Mun had done so in return for the cure which Yeung Lan Ling had used to poison him with. That evening the masked man visited Lee Jing once more but by then Lee Jing had figured out that the masked man was Lee Mun. During the period that Lee Mun was captured the mask man did not turn up so Lee Jing put two and two together. Lee Jing had found what he wanted to find. Lee Mun was the traitor at Ngai Kwong Jai who collaborated with Yee Mun Fai Kap. Having been exposed Lee Mun did not worry. Instead he offered to collaborate with Lee Jing to defeat Yeung Guo and gain the throne himself. Lee Jing was given time to think about the proposal.

Later Lee Jing overheard that Lee Seung Yee was actually Lee Mun's sister. Lee Seung Yee was feeling guilty about killing Bak Mao Dan and framing Cheung Sam Long for the murder of Sak Kau. Despite this Lee Jing still elected to help Lee Mun to gain the throne. Meanwhile Yeung Guo allowed Lee Sai Mun to return to Tai Yin, with Lee Ying which upset General Yee Mun. Since helping Yeung Guo gain the throne General Yee Mun had built up his forces to one day be able to defeat him and gain the throne himself. Yee Mun Fai Kap was then sent to see Lee Mun to add Ngai Kwong Jai to their forces. Having gained such a superior band of warriors, Lee Mun, was not about to hand them over. Instead he fought a war with Yee Mun Fai Kap and defeated him. After that battle Lee Mun, gained confidence in the warriors at Ngai Kwong Jai. He next set out to deal with Cheung Sam Long and his forces. Lee Mun knew that Cheung Sam Long had been creating weapons and raising troops. Lee Mun wanted to steal the weapons to add to his superior man power. Lee Seung Yee loved Cheung Sam Long deeply and wanted to warn him of the attack. Lee Mun would not allow her to do so and attacked his own sister. Lee Seung Yee was injured but later escaped to find Cheung Sam Long to inform him of the attack. Having been tricked once already Cheung Sam Long turned Lee Seung Yee away without believing her. Later Taoist Sin discovered that Lee Jing infact had led troops against them aided by Chun Keng, and Ching Ngow Gum. Cheung Sam Long did not want to battle with Ngai Kwong Jai so he captured Chun Keng and Ching Ngow Gum during the battle. Their troops retreated to inform Lee Jing who led the second wave of attack against Cheung Sam Long. During this battle Lee Sai Mun intervened and stopped the two forces from fighting.

Cheung Sam Long allowed Chun Keng, Ching Ngow Gum, and Lee Jing to leave. When Lee Mun discovered that they had failed in their attack against Cheung Sam Long he was furious. Lee Mun then wanted to form an alliance with Lee Sai Mun to gain the throne. Lee Sai Mun declined as he did not want to deal with Cheung Sam Long. Having been rejected by Lee Sai Mun, Lee Mun, sought out to eliminate him. Lee Jing came up with an idea of framing Lee Sai Mun by sending a letter to Yee Mun Fai Kap. Lee Sai Mun's advisor, Lau Man Jing, intercepted the letter and changed it. Having failed Lee Mun wanted Lee Seung Yee to kill Yeung Lan Ling so that Cheung Sam Long would loose all purpose in life. This would give him an opportunity to crush Cheung Sam Long. Lee Seung Yee already had enough of the senseless killings so she could not bring herself to harm Yeung Lan Ling. Finally Lee Mun thought of another plan. He had anticipated that Cheung Sam Long and Yeung Lan Ling would have worked out that Lee Seung Yee had wanted to do them harm. Working on this logic he knew Yeung Lan Ling would fake her death making Lee Seung Yee think that she had killed Yeung Lan Ling. He also knew that Cheung Sam Long would follow Lee Seung Yee to see who the mastermind was. Working on this logic he prepared an ambush and captured Cheung Sam Long. Lee Jing immediately went to warn Cheung Chut Chun, but she did not believe him. Cheung Chut Chun thought that Lee Jing had turned into a real evil soul. Lee Jing then had to explain himself. Finally Cheung Chut Chun believed that Lee Jing was putting on an act to find real evidence that Lee Mun and Lee Seung Yee had killed Bak Mao Dan and Sak Kau to frame them.

Cheung Sam Long fell for the trap and was injured when Yeung Lan Ling and Mo Ming Do Yan arrived to help him. Later Cheung Chut Chun arrived with her army and rescued them from Lee Mun's clutches. Upon returning to their stronghold Cheung Chut Chun, informed Cheung Sam Long that Lee Jing had discovered that Lee Mun was the mastermind. Cheung Sam Long had kicked himself as he should had suspected Lee Mun from the beginning. Meanwhile Lee Mun was furious and blamed Lee Seung Yee for failing to capture Cheung Sam Long. As they were arguing Lee Jing searched his room for evidence. Finally Lee Jing found some evidence but Lee Mun found him on the roof. They battled and Lee Jing fell into Lee Seung Yee's room, and placed the evidence in her bag. Lee Jing was masked so Lee Mun called everyone at Ngai Kwong Jai to find out who the masked man was. Lee Mun knew that the masked man with him he fought with was injured. Lee Mun suspected Lee Jing but he had managed to covers his wounds and did not yell when Lee Mun place his hand on his shoulders. Lee Jing's hands were bleeding and a few drops of blood landed on the floor. Lee Jing then moved slightly to his right to cover up the drops of blood. Lee Mun noticed Lee Jing moving but thought that he was signaling that the traitor was next to him. Lee Mun then grabbed the innocent man who wanted to cover up for Lee Jing and he committed suicide. After that close escape Lee Jing went to find Lee Seung Yee to recover the evidence. Lee Seung Yee had seemingly gone mad however and Lee Mun entered the room also. Lee Jing decided to wait until another opportunity but by then Lee Seung Yee had escaped.

Lee Mun was anxious to recover the evidence so he sent Lee Jing, Chun Keng and Ching Ngow Gum to find Lee Seung Yee. During this time Lee Seung Yee had shouted at Yeung Guo and Yee Mun Fai Kap who was taking foreign visitors down the grand canal. By this time Yeung Guo had become bored so he summoned to have Lee Seung Yee brought before him. But once he realized that Lee Seung Yee had lost her mind, he laughed and kept her by his side. That evening Chun Keng and Ching Ngow Gum attempted to assassinate Yeung Guo but failed. They were then rescued by Lee Mun and Lee Jing who came to fight against Yee Mun Fai Kap. Later Lee Jing saw Taoist Sin and Cheung Chut Chun, so he decided to pass on Lee Seung Yee's location to them. Cheung Sam Long was in disbelief when he heard that Lee Seung Yee was with Yeung Guo. Knowing that Yeung Guo was in Gaungdo, they decided to go there in search of Lee Seung Yee. Meanwhile Lee Mun went to find Lee Jing to capture Lee Seung Yee. They managed to invade Yeung Guo's boat and capture Lee Seung Yee. Lee Mun then wanted to personally kill Lee Seung Yee so that no one would know that he killed Sak Kau. Lee Jing prevented him from doing so, and suddenly many masked man arrived to ambush Yeung Guo. The group was led by General Dau. Yee Mun Fai Kap arrived with his troops to protect Yeung Guo and Lee Mun and Lee Jing were forced to retreat. Upon returning to the hotel Lee Mun was extremely angry and upon hearing of the news that there were other groups in Gaungdo that wanted to eliminate Yeung Guo he sought to deal with them. Lee Mun wanted to kill Yeung Guo personally so he could gain the throne himself. Lee Mun's attention then turned towards opening a Warlords Forum for all of the warlords to elect the leader. He hoped this plan would lure all of the warlords out so he could murder them and gain control himself.

When Lee Sai Mun received news of Lee Mun's Warlords forum, he suspected trouble and went to Guangdo himself. Meanwhile Yeung Lan Ling managed to rescue Lee Seung Yee from Yeung Guo's clutches. They searched all of her belongings but did not find any evidence against Lee Mun. They noticed that her sword pocket was missing and attempted to find out where she had lost it. Since Lee Seung Yee had seemingly loss her memory Yeung Lan Ling came up with many plans to attempt to restore it. Together with Cheung Sam Long, they visited places where Lee Seung Yee had been happy in the past. Meanwhile Lee Sai Mun, heads to towards Gaungdo with Cheung Sin Mo Kau. They both sneak into Lee Mun's warlord forum to see what his plans were. At the forum all of the warlords argue over who the leader should be. Lee Mun steps in looking like a hero stating that they are fighting against Yeung Guo not for their own gains to save the common people from starving. All the warlords agreed with Lee Mun who then thought of a clever idea to resolve the situation. In order to determine who the leader is Lee Mun suggested a treasure hunt for a jade insignia. The first warlord who finds it would be the leader. All of the warlords thought that it was a fair solution and accepted Lee Mun's idea. Unknown to them Lee Mun had planted many traps to kill many people along the way, and wanted all of them to die in the cave. Inside the cave Lee Mun allowed the warlords to fight each other to claim the jade insignia as he sat back and laughed. Lee Jing had enough of the senseless deaths and stepped in to attempted to expose Lee Mun as a traitor to Ngai Kwong Jai. Lee Mun in returned stated that Lee Jing was a traitor and the battled.

Meanwhile Cheung Sin Mo Kau visited Cheung Sam Long and smashed a chair over Lee Seung Yee's head. After that she regained her memory and informed Cheung Sam Long were she had lost her sword pocket. Later Lee Sai Mun visited Cheung Sam Long to inform him about Lee Mun's plans. In order to stop Lee Mun, Cheung Sam Long, knew he had to expose him as an evil man and a traitor and the decided to group split up. Yeung Lan Ling was sent to fetch the sword pocket with Mo Ming Do Yan. Cheung Sam Long and Cheung Chut Chun went to the cave to confront Lee Mun. Lee Sai Mun would surround the cave with his troops to prevent Lee Mun's forces from killing those who attempt to escape. Cheung Sin Mo Kau was supposed to look after Lee Seung Yee, but she allowed her to escape and headed towards the cave to find Cheung Sam Long. Yeung Lan Ling found the sword pocket after confronting Yeung Guo. She had a chance to kill him but elected not to because she could not bring herself to kill her own brother. Upon recovering the evidence she immediately headed towards the cave to meet up with the others. As Lee Jing battled with Lee Mun, Cheung Sam Long and Cheung Chut Chun arrived to help him. Upon seeing Cheung Sam Long, the men at Ngai Kwong Jai attacked him. Cheung Sam Long attempted to expose Lee Mun but no one believed him. Lee Mun then captured Cheung Sam Long, Cheung Chut Chun and Lee Jing. Even when Lee Seung Yee arrived to expose Lee Mun no one believed her. Lee Mun then slashed at her sister and she suffered heavy injuries. Yeung Lan Ling and Mo Ming Do Yan then arrived with the evidence but Lee Mun stated that it was fake. No one believed Yeung Lan Ling because she was a princess.

Finally Yeung Lan Ling captured Lee Seung Yee and traded her life for the life of Cheung Sam Long, Cheung Chut Chun and Lee Jing. At first Lee Mun, refused until Lee Sai Mun, arrived to inform them that he had surrounded them. Still wanting to keep his hero status Lee Mun agreed to the trade. He had accomplished what he wanted, so he left. Lee Mun was named the leader of all of the rebel groups and now had the power to attack Yeung Guo and gain the throne. Ching Ngow Gum and Chun Keng decided to switch camps however and joined up with Cheung Sam Long. Meanwhile Yee Mun Fai Kap set out to deal with Lee Ying. He obtained an order from Yeung Guo, to request Lee Ying to build a new palace at Tai Yin within three months. Yee Mun Fai Kap thought by giving the Lee family such an impossible task they will never be able to do it, and be executed for their failure. Or if they refuse to perform the task he would have grounds to execute them on an account of treason. When Lee Sai Mun returned and was informed of the situation, he attempted to convince Lee Ying to rebel. Lee Ying refused and wanted to attempt building the palace with three months. Lee King Sing and Lee Wai Gut then suggested and idea with how to achieve the task but Lee Ying had already thought about it. Finally Lee Sai Mun thought of a plan that would work an was given control of the entire operation. Cousins Cheung Sin Mo Kau and Cheung Sin Mo Kei also joined in to help. During the operation Lee King Sing and Lee Wai Gut was of no help stirring up trouble with the commoners who volunteer to help. Lee Sai Mun then sent his two brothers on a simple mission of spying on Yee Mun Fai Kap who was supervising the Lee family. Instead of helping they vented their jealousy towards Lee Sai Mun and got drunk with Yee Mun Fai Kap.

Fortunately Lee Sai Mun suspected that his brothers would get drunk and attacked Yee Mun Fai Kap when he attempted to tamper with the workers food supplies. Upon discovering what had happened Lee King Sing and Lee Wai Gut became more furious that Lee Sai Mun had predicted that they would fail there task. Lee Sai Mun then sent Cheung Sin Mo Kau to watch over Yee Mun Fai Kap. He was distracted for days and upon returning to the work site, he was stunned to find that the new palace had been completed. He then left in a fury having failed to eliminate the Lee family. When Yeung Guo heard that Lee Ying had built the palace he was furious as well, and went to personally inspect it. Whilst at Tai Yin, Yee Mun Fai Kap, attempted to put on a show to accuse Lee Ying of treason but failed. Yeung Guo then left Tai Yin but left two of his trusted knights with Lee Ying to spy on him. Once Yeung Guo, departed Lee Sai Mun continued to urge Lee Ying to rebel. Lee Ying refused and later Lee King Sing and Lee Wai Gut also thought of a plan to force Lee Ying to rebel. Lee King Sing and Lee Wai Gut got Lee Ying drunk and made him sleep with one of the Emperor's Concubines which was ground s for treason. Later Lee Sai Mun's advisor, Lau Man Jing, taught Lee Sai Mun a dirty tactic which started the rebellion. Lau Man Jing took Lee Sai Mun's forces and attacked one of Lee Ying's trusted groups. Upon this attack Lee Ying finally gave an order to start raising troops at Tai Yin to deal with the band of outlaws which were actually Lee Sai Mun's men. Once Yeung Guo's men discovered that the battle had been ignited by Lau Man Jing they attempted to murder Lee Ying. Lee Sai Mun had started the rebellion so he anticipated what Yeung Guo's men wanted to do and captured them. From that point Lee Ying had only one choice, he gave orders for Lee Sai Mun to lead the attack against Yeung Guo. Before he gave the orders Lee Ying, reminded Lee Sai Mun, that it was his own plan which began the fighting and not to regret what he had done.

As the battle raged many Lords, Knights, and nobleman named themselves Emperor of their own region and the struggle for power began. When Yee Mun Fai Kap informed Yeung Guo what had happened he was in a state of disbelief and cried to himself. What he had worked so hard to gain had he had now lost because he had failed to take care of the common people. Meanwhile Lau Man Jing visited Cheung Sam Long to invite him to Tai Yin to see Lee Sai Mun. Cheung Chut Chun expected foul play but Cheung Sam Long elected to go regardless. After a brief discussion, Lee Sai Mun, suggested of making Cheung Sam Long as the leader of their combined forces much to Lau Man Jing's disgust. Cheung Sam Long refuse to form an alliance at first because he knew Lau Man Jing did not respect him. He knew that later Lau Man Jing would plot against him. Yeung Lan Ling also knew that Lau Man Jing did no like Cheung Sam Long so she went and saw Lee Sai Mun about the alliance. Yeung Lan Ling agreed to form an alliance on the condition that Lee Sai Mun kill Lau Man Jing but he refused. Lau Man Jing overheard the conversation, and together with Lee Ying thought of a plan to kill Cheung Sam Long. In the morning Lee Ying invited Cheung Sam Long for a drink. As he was about to take a drink, Yeung Lan Ling, rushed in with Mo Ming Do Yan and knocked the glass out of his hands. At once Cheung Sam Long was informed that the wine was poisoned. Cheung Sam Long then captured Lee Ying as hostage whilst Yeung Lan Ling captured Lau Man Jing. Despite this Lee King Sing and Lee Wai Gut refuse to allow them to leave. When Lee Sai Mun arrived and realized the situation he allowed them to leave. After that ordeal Lee Ying vowed to one day that he would get revenge on Cheung Sam Long.

Later Yeung Guo was still holding up at Guangdo thanks to Yee Mun Fai Kap. But Cheung Sam Long knew that the common people were suffering at Guangdo, and would soon be attacked by rebel forces should Yeung Guo still be alive. Cheung Sam Long knew that if the rebels attacked many innocent lives would be lost so he decided to assassinate Yeung Guo himself. Yeung Lan Ling pleaded with Cheung Sam Long not to kill her brother. Having failed she then tricked and drug Cheung Sam Long so he could not kill Yeung Guo. Yeung Lan Ling then went to see her brother. Meanwhile Yee Mun Fai Kap had enough of Yeung Guo and went to assassinate him to gain power himself. Yeung Guo was stunned when he became surrounded by Yee Mun Fai Kap's men because he had treated them so well. Yeung Guo then laughed to himself as he realized that no one could be trusted, and he then battled with Yee Mun Fai Kap. As Yeung Lan Ling entered the palace he witness Yeung Guo, being strangled to death by Yee Mun Fai Kap. Upon seeing Yeung Lan Ling, Yee Mun Fai Kap gave orders to capture her. But she managed to escape with Cheung Sam Long and Mo Ming Do Yan's help. Now that Yeung Guo had died, and the Siu Dynasty vanquished Yeung Lan Ling wanted to leave Cheung Sam Long. She did not want to be with someone who helped to vanquish the Empire which her family had won. Cheung Sam Long then made a promise that he was raising a force only to save the common people and had no intention of ruling over China. Yeung Lan Ling believed him and elected to remain behind. Meanwhile, General Yee Mun, named Yeung Guo's eight year old son as his successor to the throne. Being so young Yeung Guo's son was only a puppet ruler as General Yee Mun and Yee Mun Fai Kap held the power.

Yee Mun Fai Kap would then call himself as the Emperor and take revenge on his wife Fau Sau Cum, who had left him for Yeung Guo. Meanwhile in the heavy rain Lee Ying orders a withdrawal of his troops. Lee Sai Mun was against the idea of a retreat knowing that their would never be another opportunity to obtain the throne should they choose to withdraw. He kneeled in the heavy rain to see his farther and finally convinced him to continue on with the rebellion. Meanwhile Cheung Sin Mo Kau had sneaked into the army camp to be with Lee Sai Mun, who did not want her around in times of war. He did not want Cheung Sin Mo Kau to fall victim during the war. Meanwhile Cheung Sam Long and Lee Sai Mun were due to clash with each other at Kwan Jong, a tactical point to conquering Luoyang. Lee Mun also wanted to capture Kwan Jong and collaborated with Magistrate Wong and lend his forces to deal with Cheung Sam Long. Knowing that Lee Sai Mun had developed good relationships with General Wong who was in charge of Kwan Jong, Lee Jing went to convince him not to allow Kwan Jong to fall into Lee Sai Mun's hands. General Wong agreed to Lee Jing's terms and allowed Cheung Sam Long to passage through to Luoyang. Meanwhile Cheung Sam Long received a message from Lee Mun who wanted to use Lee Seung Yee's life in return for Kwan Jong. Cheung Sam Long refused as he had surrounded Lee Mun with Chun Keng and Ching Ngow Gum's forces. Cheung Sam Long was taking Lee Seung Yee away when he realized that she had been poisoned. Once more Lee Mun asked whether Cheung Sam Long was going to hand Kwan Jong to him. Cheung Sam Long thought it over and then took a drink. Suddenly he became poisoned, as this happened Lee Seung Yee switch the cups.

Lee Mun was so happy that he didn't realize that the cups had been switched and took a drink and became poisoned himself. Lee Seung Yee then tricked Lee Mun into handing the cure over to Cheung Sam Long. Upon doing this Lee Mun was then informed he had been tricked and became furious. As he charged at Lee Seung Yee she committed suicide. Cheung Sam Long then recovered and battle with Lee Mun who managed to escape. Before her death Lee Seung Yee requested Cheung Sam Long not to kill Lee Mun, so Cheung Sam Long promised. Shortly after Lee Seung Yee's death Cheung Sam Long was furious that he attacked Lee Mun's camp and captured him. Whilst he attacked Lee Mun's camp, Lee Jing lost Kwan Jong as the men rebel against him. Lee Sai Mun then attacked Kwan Jong knowing that Cheung Sam Long was busy with Lee Mun. At the same time Magistrate Wong attacked Lee Mun's camp and won. Upon being captured Lee Mun begged like a coward for Cheung Sam Long to spare his life in return for the deeds that he did earlier. Cheung Sam Long was saved by Lee Seung Yee many times and decided set him free. It was then up to Chun Keng and Ching Ngow Gum to kill Lee Mun but they could not bring themselves to do so. Finally Yeung Lan Ling made a move to kill Lee Mun but Cheung Sam Long prevented her from doing so. One night men from Ngai Kwong Jai rescued Lee Mun and burnt Cheung Sam Long's camp. Cheung Sam Long managed to save the fire but was angry that Lee Mun had been allowed to escape.

When Cheung Sam Long was about to enter Kwan Jong he heard news that it had fallen into Lee Sai Mun's hands. Cheung Sam Long became depressed having let Kwan Jong slip from his finger tips and thought that he had lost the war. Yeung Lan Ling convinced him otherwise and Cheung Sam Long set out to deal with Lee Sai Mun. Knowing that they were in trouble Lau Man Jing suggested using the life of Cheung Chut Chun and Lee Jing to force them to withdraw their troops. But Lee Sai Mun oppose the idea was they were once good friends. With the advice of Cheung Sin Mo Kau, Lee Sai Mun, agreed to meeting with Cheung Sam Long to discuss peace. He handed the letter over to Lau Man Jing to forward the message to Cheung Sam Long. Lau Man Jing changed the letter and demanded Cheung Sam Long to withdraw, otherwise Lee Jing and Cheung Chut Chun would die. Upon hearing this Cheung Sam Long was furious, and thought about withdrawing his troops until Yeung Lan Ling convinced him otherwise. Lee Sai Mun knew that he would loose should Cheung Sam Long attack, so he decided to release Lee Jing and Cheung Chut Chun. Upon doing this act Cheung Sam Long returned the favor by agreeing to withdraw his troops and making peace with Lee Sai Mun. However when Cheung Sam Long was leaving on Lee Sai Mun's boat, Lau Man Jing had planted explosive aboard and ignited it when they were far away. Upon being informed of Lau Man Jing's plans Lee Sai Mun boarded his own ship in an attempt to save them. But by the time he arrived he managed only to find the ship wrecked, and Cheung Sam Long and the others were assumed dead. After that incident Lee Sai Mun became depressed but he soon recovered when he heard that Lee Ying, Lee King Sing and Lee Wai Gut had arrived. After securing a strategic post, Lee Ying, named himself an Emperor. Now China had four different Emperors struggling to gain control, Magistrate Wong, Lee Mun, and Yee Mun Fai Kap.

Meanwhile Cheung Sam Long, Yeung Lan Ling, Lee Jing, Cheung Chut Chun, Ching Ngow Gum and Chun Keng managed to survive the ship's explosion. Unfortunately Taoist Sin, and Mo Ming Do Yan were killed so Cheung Sam Long vowed to take revenge on Lee Sai Mun. Instead of attacking Lee Sai Mun immediately, Cheung Sam Long, decided to head west to build up his troops once more. Whilst at Sai Wek, Cheung Sam Long and the others decided to save the common folk from a corrupt warlord by killing him. After that incident Cheung Sam Long was well respected by the folks out at Sai Wek. After the death of the warlord the commoners begin to live a happy and peaceful life. Meanwhile Lee Sai Mun is sent to led troops against Yee Mun Fai Kap. Lee Sai Mun wins the war and Yee Mun Fai Kap's own men betray him and present Lee Sai Mun with his head as a sign of peace. Lee Sai Mun then charged on a defeated General Yee Mun who committed suicide. Having won another battle, Lee Sai Mun, then focused his attention on Lee Mun. Lee Sai Mun anticipated every move that Lee Mun would make and attacked whilst Lee Mun's troops were preparing traps. Having been defeated Lee Mun and Master Sin attempted to escape but their path was blocked by Lee Yin Ba. Knowing that he was surrounded Lee Mun challenged Lee Yin Ba to a one on one duel and lots. Lee Yin Ba let his guard down having won the battled and was ambushed by Lee Mun who used a secret blade at the bottom of his shoes. At once Lee Mun captured Lee Yin Ba, took him as hostage and escaped. When Lee Sai Mun went to pursue Lee Mun, he discovered Lee Yin Ba's body nailed to a tree. Lee Yin Ba's death upset Lee Sai Mun who vowed to get revenge. With no where to go Lee Mun killed his trusted man Master Sin, and blamed him for Lee Yin Ba's death. He took Master Sin's head to Lee Ying and surrendered.

Lee Ying allowed Lee Mun to work under him as he promised to persuade Magistrate Wong and another warlord to surrender to Lee Ying. Lee Mun had no intentions of doing either however as he only looked for opportunities to deal with the Lee family. When Lee Sai Mun returned with Lee Yin Ba's ashes, he was surprised to see Lee Mun and sought to kill him. Lee Ying prevented him from doing so, and everyone else were against the idea also. Later Lee Mun sought to find Cheung Sin Mo Kau to make peace with Lee Sai Mun. Cheung Sin Mo Kau was a childhood friend of Lee Yin Ba so she refused to help Lee Mun make peace with Lee Sai Mun. Instead she made Lee Mun look like a fool infront of the common people. Soon Lee Ying lost his patience with Lee Mun and requested him to convince Magistrate Wong and another warlord to surrender. In turn Lee Mun discovered that Lee King Sing and Lee Wai Gut were jealous of Lee Sai Mun so he worked on another plan. Lee Mun sent rich gifts and beautiful women to Lee King Sing and Lee Wai Gut and they spent many nights drinking and having a party. With each moment Lee Mun would make Lee King Sing even more jealous of Lee Sai Mun. Once Cheung Sin Mo Kei tried to poison Lee Mun but failed. This made Lee King Sing furious as one of the beautiful women were killed. He immediately blamed Lee Sai Mun but Cheung Sin Mo Kei took the blame so Lee Ying spared them. Later Lee Mun, Lee King Sing, Lee Wai Gut, and Lau Ming Jing all agreed to attack Cheung Sam Long who had been named a Lord of a tiny nation. Lee Sai Mun refuse to lead the attack and was consequently locked up in the dungeon. When Cheung Sam Long heard that the Tong Dynasty army was due to attack them, he was less then impress.

By now Cheung Sam Long was living a peaceful life and his troops were not large enough to deal with the forces led by Lee King Sing, Lee Mun, and Lee Wai Gut. In the first battle Cheung Sam Long lost badly. Knowing that they did not have the man power to deal with Lee King Sing who began to grow in confidence and became arrogant, Cheung Sam Long sought to outsmart them. Cheung Sam Long took his men out of the castle and allowed Lee King Sing's forces to enter without resistance. One they were inside, Cheung Sam Long, surrounded them from the outside and burnt their food supplies. Lee King Sing, Lee Wai Gut, and Lee Mun's forces were all trapped inside without food. Once Lee Ying heard of the situation, he sent Lee Sai Mun on a rescue and destroy operation. Meanwhile Lee Mun convinced Lee King Sing's men to rebel against him. With Lee Mun leading them the soldiers captured Lee King Sing and Lee Wai Gut. Lee Mun wanted to use their lives to force Lee Sai Mun to withdraw so he could take over himself. Instead of withdrawing Lee Sai Mun, put out a large reward for the capture of Lee King Sing and Lee Wai Gut. Once Lee King Sing's men heard, they betrayed Lee Mun, in return and helped Lee Sai Mun capture Lee King Sing and Lee Wai Gut. Lee Mun was left to attempt and escape. He managed to capture an innocent family and use them as hostage to trade for his freedom. Not wanting to the innocent Lee Sai Mun allowed Lee Mun to escape. Once free from Lee Sai Mun, Lee Mun, decided to kill the innocent family anyway and headed towards Tak Keut. Lee Sai Mun then released his brothers, who were bitterly angry that he had used such tactics to defeat Lee Mun. After regaining control, Lee Sai Mun, met with and made peace with Cheung Sam Long after resolving their misunderstandings.

Meanwhile Lee Mun convinced the Tak Keut Emperor to attack the Tong Dynasty. Upon being informed of the attack Lee Sai Mun wanted to lead troops to deal with the Tak Keut forces. Unfortunately Lee Ying, Lee King Sing, and Lee Wai Gut were all cowards and were afraid to die so they turned his suggestion down. Once the Tak Keut forces captured a nearby city, Lee Sai Mun, once made a request to Lee Ying to allow him to led troops and battle with the Tak Keut forces. Once again Lee Ying refused, and Lee King Sing suggested retreating back to Luoyang to save their own lives. Soon they became surrounded by the Tak Keut forces with only three months of food supplies left. Although Lee Sai Mun was able to hold the fort he knew that if would soon fall. Cheung Sin Mo Kau then escaped from the city to request Cheung Sam Long to take his forces to help Lee Sai Mun fight against the Tak Keut forces. After consulting with Yeung Lan Ling, Cheung Chut Chun and Lee Jing, Cheung Sam Long agreed to help and led his troops against the Tak Keut forces. With Cheung Sam Long's help, Lee Sai Mun was able to force the Tak Keut army to retreat. Having been defeated once more Lee Mun made a run for it with a small band of loyal subjects. Cheung Sam Long managed to block his path of escape. Knowing that he was surrounded Lee Mun decided to challenge Cheung Sam Long to a one on one duel. Once more Lee Mun lost and attempted to distract Cheung Sam Long by mentioning Lee Seung Yee's name. For a moment Cheung Sam Long lost his concentration and was nearly ambushed by Lee Mun who used the blade at the bottom of his boots to attack. Cheung Sam Long blocked the blow and cut Lee Mun's leg off. Lee Mun was then struggling in pain so Cheung Sam Long finished him off with another strike.

Upon defeating the Tak Keut army Lee Ying was extremely happy. Chun Keng, Ching Ngow Gum, and Lee Jing were all promoted to high official posts within the Tong Dynasty. Yeung Lan Ling was restored as a princess. Lee Ying then wanted to make Cheung Sam Lam a Lord but he refused to accept the position. Upon this Lee Ying, Lee King Sing, Lee Wai Gut, and Lau Ming Jing thought of a plan to assassinate him. Lee Sai Mun was against the idea but was powerless to do anything. Cheung Sam Long had anticipated that Lee Ying would attempt to assassinate him so made plans to leave. Before leaving Cheung Sam Long informed Lee Sai Mun that he would one day make a great Emperor. Cheung Sam Long left his most able men, Chun Keng, Ching Ngow Gum, Cheung Chut Chun, Lee Jing and even Yeung Lan Ling behind to help Lee Sai Mun to achieve his goal. The following day Cheung Sam Long dressed up as an ordinary fisherman and made a run for it. When Yeung Lan Ling went to find Cheung Sam Long in the morning she found a letter. Upon realizing that Cheung Sam Long was about to leave she perused him with a boat. Cheung Sam Long did not get far however as Cheung Sin Mo Kei had prepared an ambush for him. He was caught but Lee Sai Mun arrived to rescue him and sent him off on a boat. As Cheung Sam Long drifted away Lee Sai Mun and Cheung Sin Mo Kau waved goodbye from the shore. Soon another boat perused Cheung Sam Long. This time it was Yeung Lan Ling's boat. As she boarded the boat Cheung Sam Long smiled as they would never be separated again. They held each other as the boat drifted, pondering the future ahead of them.

Within the next ten years, Lee Sai Mun, ascended the throne after Lee King Sing and Lee Wai Gut died trying to kill him. Cheung Sam Long returned to visit Prime Minister, Lee Jing and Cheung Chut Chun to catch up on old times. When Lee Sai Mun discovered that Cheung Sam Long had returned he was happy. At the same time he also feared Cheung Sam Long. Lee Sai Mun then instructed Lee Jing to inform Cheung Sam Long he wanted hold a meeting. Upon being informed that Lee Sai Mun wanted to meet with him, Cheung Sam Long and Yeung Lan Ling made plans to leave. As they were leaving Lee Sai Mun arrived to thank his good friend for the help many years ago. Cheung Sam Long was also happy that China was at peace and that Lee Sai Mun was a good Emperor. Yeung Lan Ling then remarked how it was fate that Lee Sai Mun became Emperor making reference to the song, "Yeung flower close, Lee flower opens". Lee Sai Mun also seemed happy but he made Cheung Sam Long take an oath that he would never return to China again. Cheung Sam Long took the oath and left with Yeung Lan Ling. Before leaving he left an insignia for Lee Jing and Cheung Chut Chun to look at. In those ten years that Cheung Sam Long had been away he had become an Emperor of a nation south of China.

RATING (6)

Entertainment wise "The Grand Canal", was a good series. However at 60 episodes in length, there were many flat spots throughout the series. This series is definitely not one for the impatient types who enjoy picking up the remote control and zipping through the series to find the ending. There is so much scheming, back stabbing, and plotting in this series. At times the villains performed such wicked, twisted and inhumane things that makes you angry even as a viewer. The seemingly slow nature in which the villains like Yeung Guo, and Lee Mun suffer the consequences of their actions are at times unbearable. I also thought the series moved at an alarmingly slow pace. I normally enjoy historical series, but I was quite disappointed after watching "The Grand Canal". I thought the series concentrated too much on relationship development, and ignored the tactics used in battles that took place during the uprising.

The acting in this series is extremely good. In this series Tony Leung and Idy Chan did a superb job and were a great on screen couple. Not often does Tony Leung get to handle roles where he has to play a wise, intelligent and heroic character. Au Siu Wai and Wong Yee Cum were also great as a couple together. But the most outstanding acting in the series must belong to Lawrence Ng Ka Wah. He had that evil and sleazy look about him. At times Lawrence Ng was a bit comical in his performance. He had such an evil stare, but sometimes the way he spoke made me laugh. During the middle parts of the series it almost seemed as if Lawrence and Felix were having a contest to see who could come up with the most evil stare. Lawrence did, Major in playing evil roles whilst in acting school so his performance should not came as a shock. However the way that he played Yeung Guo, will almost damage his reputation and ability to take on heroic roles. I didn't really like Tsang Wah Sin's character in this series. She seemed so annoying and remained static from the beginning to the end of the series. The costumes used during this series were excellent complementing the good acting. However I thought the costume and hair style used for Idy Chan, did her no favor. In this series Idy Chan played a Princess warrior, but the costume made her look a bit scruffy at times.

WONG YAT WAH AS LEE MUN

In Felix's entire acting career he has taken on five evil characters in ancient series thus far. Each of the characters have been based on an actual historical figure. Lee Mun is no exception. The way Felix played Lee Mun in this series was excellent. At the beginning he had that heroic feel and look about him. Those who were not aware that Lee Mun was a villain would have been tricked into thinking that he was a heroic character. Towards the middle of the series Felix had that cool and calculating look and feel about him. Towards the end of the series Felix really looked mean, nasty and sleazy. He had that extremely evil stare which matched Lawrence’s evil stares throughout the series. Unlike Lawrence who was comical at times, Felix remained cold and heartless in his portray of Lee Mun when he had been exposed. I think many of the fans who think that Felix does not look like a hero or is not heroic stems from this series. He made the Lee Mun character look so sleazy, that by the end of the series I even started have negative feelings towards Felix. This is a fine line that many actors must tread in the entertainment industry. As much of the popularity derives upon the roles the actors play and the way the actors look, not the way the act. As history shows actors who started their career in evil roles or have played evil roles often carry the tag that they don't look heroic.
