The New Kid at Lawndale High: Part 2

It's been a few days since Jason's arrival at Lawndale. He's met all the usual air heads. Meanwhile, he became real good friends with Daria and Jane.

"So, what are you doing later, Daria?" Jason asked her at their lockers between classes.

Daria opened her locker. "Jane's brother, Trent, and his band are playing tonight. Would you like to go? I'll introduce you do him," Daria offered.

"Sure." Jason shut his locker. "Where and when?" he asked.

"Nine tonight. I'll walk you there," she offered.

"Sure. That sounds great," Jason replied. "Do you want to catch a bite to eat before? We could go to that place that you and Jane took me to a couple of days ago. How about it?" he offered.

"Sure. I'll meet you there at about eight. That alright?" Daria asked.

"Perfect. See you then." They both left for their next classes.

That evening, at eight, Jason meet up with Daria and Jane at the restaurant. "Hey Jason," Jane said, walking to the table.

"Hey Jane. So, is this a good band?" Jason asked.

"They're good. If you're in to that kind of music.," Daria said.

Jason swallowed his pizza. "As long as it's not country or rap, I'm into it," he said.

"He'll love it," Jane said.

"So, what's Trent like?" Jason asked, taking another bite of his pizza.

Daria took a sip of her soda. "He's a very lazy person He does all his stuff by night, and sleeps by day," she said.

"Sounds like a cool kid," Jason said, "Does he have a job?"

Jane swallowed her pizza. "No," she said. "People have given him the description of an unemployed, professional slumberer."

"Cool," Jason said, then he gulped down his large soda rather fast.

"Thirsty?" Jane asked.

Jason put down his cup. "No. I just seem to be able to drink lots really fast. I can down a two liter in under five minutes without breaking," he said.

Sarcastically, Daria said," And that's something to be proud of?"

"No. It's just something I can do," Jason said.

"Something you can control?" Daria asked. She bit into her pizza.

"With a straw. But then the drink empties, and then that loud slurping noise starts," Jason said.

"Really. I hate that noise," Daria said.

"Me too," Jane said.

"I'll say," Daria said. "Ready to go? Mystic Spiral starts soon."

Jane grabbed the bill. "Well, let's split up the bill first. Jason, you owe $10, Daria, $9, and me, $11," Jane said.

"Fair enough," Jason said. He put in his share. Daria did the same. They all walked out together, on their way to meet Trent.

after the concert, Daria and Jane took Jason to meet Trent. "That was great. I liked the music. By the way, I'm Jason. Daria and Jane's friend," Jason said.

"Yes. Jane has told me about you. She said you were a nice kid," Trent said as he put away his guitar.

"Oh really," Jason said, looking at Jane. "Well, I've only heard that you're pretty cool. And that I would get into your music. I did."

"Thank you," Trent said. "Anyone want to go get a burger with me?"

Daria's neck started to redden. "With you?" she asked.

"Who else?" Jason asked. He noticed her neck.

Jane and Trent were discussing where to eat. Meanwhile Jason whispered to Daria, "What's up with your neck? It's kinda red. Are you alright?"

"Yes, I'm fine. It happens whenever I get over anxious. It'll be fine," Daria said.

"Are you two ready?" Jane asked them.

Daria's neck regained normal colors. "Whenever you are, Jason."

"Then let's go," Trent said.
