![]() Q: Is this real? Are you truly trying to revive the worship of the God Iarhibol? A. Yes, this is real. Iarhibol was an important deity in the Western world as well as in the Near East, and we hope to rebuild this worship - honorably and accurately, in the modern world. Q. Okay then, why are you trying to revive the worship of Iarhibol? A. Because even though his worship has been mostly dormant for centuries, the god Iarhibol still exists and offers beneficial spirituality for the world. Iarhibol is a god of Light, Truth, Honor and Prophecy. In the ancient world his worship was a beneficial path that enhanced the lives of individuals and increased positive community. Iarhibol deserves to be honored once again. Helping to make that possible is our goal. Q. What might a modern person gain through honoring Iarhibol today? A. In general, as many things as one might through the worship of any deity. More specifically, such things as the opportunity to learn and grow, as Iarhibol presides over the powers of eternal spiritual Light and Truth. The opportunity to increase personal integrity, as Iarhibol presides over the powers of Honor. The opportunity for divine inspiration, as Iarhibol presides over Prophecy and acts as a messenger of the Gods. The opportunity to experience an aspect of the ancient powers of the Sun, that had been 'lost' for many centuries, and more. Q: Can I worship other Gods/Goddesses also? A. Absolutely! Iarhibol was worshipped alongside the Goddesses and Gods of many different pantheons. Iarhibol is not a jealous God, so those who honor him are free to worship other Pagan deities today, just as it happened in the past. Q. Can I be involved with non-Syrian or Classical deities/religions, and still worship Iarhibol? A. Again, absolutely. In the ancient world the worship of Iarhibol was mingled with many different pantheons. As long as your spirit yearns seek the Light that Iarhibol presides over, you are welcome to combine his worship with other faiths. Q. What other deities were most often worshipped along with Iarhibol in the past? A. While an important Sun god, Iarhibol was neither the only, nor the 'main' deity of the Roman/Syrian Pantheon. Iarhibol, God of the Sun, was often partnered with "Aglibol" ('AG-lih-bol') a Lunar God. They, as 'brothers', were the companions of Bel-Marduk, the main deity of Palmyra. As the years passed, Iarhibol came to be worshipped by those who honored many other deities from many pantheons, including Mithras, Jupiter Dolchenus, the Discoursi, and many more. Yet as a member of a wide pantheon, Iarhibol did have his own Sacred Spring in Palmyra, (the spring of Efka) and separate temples of his own. Q. Do I have to make a long-term commitment to Iarhibol in order to practice his rites? A. No. Iarhibol was part of an 'extended pantheon' in the ancient world and was not worshipped 'exclusively' in ancient times. Therefore he does not require the same sort of commitment that later monotheistic Gods would demand. Q. I have more questions! A. Ask them! Contact us at: Temple_of_Iarhibol@yahoo.com |
