Those

Dear Colin
I notice that, on the website, you have a
photo of the old Thames sailing barge, under full sail.
Last weekend, we spent two days on one of
these barges, Reminder, sleeping in what was once the 'hold' but is
now a series of cabins. There is also a large well-appointed galley,
and plenty of room in the 'lounge/dining area' for 12 people to relax
in comfort.
On Sunday, we sailed from Maldon to Point
Clear/St Osyth, and would have gone further had it not been for the
lack of breeze. The foresail was up, as were the mainsail, topsail and
mizzen, and to sail slowly up-river under such an area of canvas was
absolutely fantastic. I would recommend this trip to anyone and
everyone, as it is an experience that one will probably never be able
to repeat.
The costs of chartering the barge for a
week are little more than hiring a caravan, if one wishes to merely
stay in port, but it is well worth the extra to hire the crew and go
for a sail! The Company also do weekend breaks, which include a sail,
and all meals, at a very reasonable price.
If anyone from our twin towns wants a
holiday with a difference, this is it!!!
Check it all out on the website:
If our friends from our twin towns do wish
to experience the thrill of sail (and they get to steer the barge!!)
and if they need an English guide, please ask them to contact me!! I
would be more than happy to do this trip again, and again and
again.......
Meanwhile, keep up the good work.
A bientot
