On June 16, 1999 Joe made his debut as Casey Hughes on the daytime soap opera As the World Turns. Although it took him quite a while to get screen time, (one appearance in three months--Is this how things work on soap operas? <g>) once he did, the show gave him some great moments to shine once again. One episode in particular, December 2, 1999, stands out for me. In it, Casey came home from school upset and with a black eye because the other kids were calling his mother a killer. You really felt like he was so hurt his reaction so real and you felt such sympathy for him, that he brought me to tears...on a SOAP! Anyway, Casey Hughes is the youngest son of Tom and Margo Hughes. The Hughes family, in one form or another, has been the central focus of As the World Turns since the show began in 1956.

The As the World Turns discussion group board link below is the best site I've seen for commentary about the show. In the past. I've seen a few good comments about Joe while his TV family was featured in the storyline. Previously, alot of readers seemed to think that the writers of the show were portraying the character of Casey as too young. Since the previous actor was much younger than Joe, I think they're just making the gradual transition from younger child to preteen to teen.
