COXIM, BRAZIL Name: Hotel Neves Address: Price: $14.50 Rating: Mediocre Reviewed: 1995 Review: Very pleasant hotel (more like a motel) conveniently located a couple of blocks from the bus terminal and a good distance from the center of town (allow at least 45 minutes walking time). Rooms are fairly clean, comfortable, spacious and come with a ceiling fan (a welcome relief!). $3.50 more per night will get you a room with air conditioning. If you want both air conditioning and color tv, plan on paying a whopping $39 (way too much!). Recommended! Price includes breakfast. CRICIUMA, BRAZIL Name: Turismo Hotel Address: Price: $15 Rating: Honorable Mention Reviewed: 1992 Review: In this small and peaceful city, there seems to be a limited number of hotels. Excellent two star hotel located a short distance from the bus terminal by taxi ($2) and in the middle of the downtown shopping area with a pleasant park nearby. Rooms are spotless and come with color tv and air conditioning. Guests fortunate enough to get a room on one of the higher floors will have the added advantage of having a breathtaking view of the city. Friendly hotel staff. Recommended! Price includes breakfast. CRISTALINA, BRAZIL Name: Hotel Lamar Address: Price: $10.50 Rating: Mediocre Reviewed: 1995 Review: Good hotel conveniently located a short distance down the highway from the bus terminal, a ways from the downtown area and adjacent to a gas station. Rooms are clean and don’t come with anything. However, it can still be recommended as an acceptable place to stay while in this city of 25,000. Price includes breakfast. Drawback: 1) Lock sticks. 2) In the bathroom, there’s no toilet seat to sit on. CRUZ ALTA, BRAZIL Name: Hotel Ceresar Address: Price: $7 Rating: Mediocre Reviewed: 1998 Review: In this bustling city of 69,000, there are hotels to suit most budgets and this one seems to be at the rock bottom end of the scale. Barely acceptable hotel located a few blocks from the bus terminal in one direction and the downtown area in the other direction. Rooms are of a decent size and don’t come with anything but a sink. The communal bathroom is down the hall. The beds are rock hard (hey - you get what you pay for!). However, for a cheap and no frills hotel it isn’t too bad and you could probably do a lot worse. The room seemed to be clean and there were no bugs or insects crawling or flying around, and that’s the main thing. Therefore, I’m recommending this hotel for an overnight stay while visiting this city. Price includes breakfast (eating breakfast here is not recommended). Drawback: 1) Lock sticks. 2) There will be two beds in the room. Carefully choose the bed that you will be sleeping in. One will suppor you through the night and the other may be ready to fall apart at any moment. CRUZEIRO, BRAZIL Name: Itamarati Hotel Address: rua Cap. Neco 20 Price: $34.50 Rating: Medicore Reviewed: 1996 Review: Good hotel (the best in the city) located several blocks from the bus terminal by taxi ($5) and in the immediate downtown area. Rooms are spotless, spacious, comfortable and come with color tv and fan. What is noteworthy about this hotel, however, is that many of the rooms located on the upper floors (mine included) have the added advantage of having a spectacular aerial view of the city. Breathtaking! Very spacious balcony. Definitely recommended! Price includes breakfast. Drawback: There’s only one electrical outlet in the room. Therefore, you can have the tv or the fan plugged into the wall but not both. CUIABA, BRAZIL Name: Hotel Sao Francisco Address: Price: $14 Rating: Mediocre Reviewed: 1995 Review: Adequate but basic hotel conveniently located a couple of blocks from the bus terminal and a good distance from the downtown area (local bus transportation from the bus terminal but plan on waiting in a very long line). Rooms are simple, fairly clean and come with a ceiling fan (a welcome relief!). If you want a less expensive room without the private bathroom, expect to pay only $8.50 a night. Recommended! Drawback: Spiders! Add’l Info: Clean and organized bus terminal in this city of 401,000. CUMURUXATIBA, BRAZIL Name: Vista Mar Palace Hotel Address: Rua Antonio Climerio dos Santos s/n Price: $30 Rating: Mediocre Reviewed: 1994 Review: In this poor and sleepy town (only one dirt road runs through it), there are a few cheap pousadas and the above mentioned hotel is probably the best that this city has to offer. Good hotel located a few short blocks from the bus stop and situated near the beach. Rooms are fairly clean (didn’t sweep out all of the sand) and come with frigo bar (empty), color tv and a ceiling fan (high speed only). Perhaps it’s a little high for what you actually get (you pay for the location) but still can be recommended. Price includes breakfast. Drawback: The grounds that the hotel sits on is under construction and torn up. It might be better to visit this hotel at another time when construction is completed and the grounds are back to being natural and picturesque. CURITIBANOS, BRAZIL Name: Pery Hotel Address: Av. Salomao Carneiro de Almeida 861 Price: $14.50 Rating: Honorable Mention Reviewed: 1995 Review: Good quality two star hotel conveniently located within walking distance from the bus terminal and in the center of the downtown area. Rooms are spotless, simple, somewhat small but yet cozy and include a small table and chair. Lots and lots of closet space. The hardwood floors are remarkably waxed and polished which is something you don’t usually find in inexpensive hotels. There are more expensive rooms available that are a bit more spacious that come with color tv and air conditioning. Price includes breakfast. Drawback: The hallways are dark at night which makes finding your room rather difficult. Also, once you find your room by feeling the shape of the numbers on the door), you’ll have another challenge of finding the keyhole to your door to insert the key. Advisary: There are other hotels around the bus terminal but it’s not recommended staying in any of them. CURUMIN, BRAZIL Name: Hotel Serra Mar Address: Price: $22.50 Rating: Mediocre Reviewed: 1996 Review: Adequate and simple hotel located in this small (so small, in fact, that it’s not even on the Brazilian map) beach town. A few hotels but the above mentioned one seems to be about the only one open out of season (late October). Rooms are simple and come with a frigo bar (empty) and a private bathroom (could be cleaner) and that’s about it. The carpet was not vacumned and the walls were not the cleanest. The location of the hotel is a few blocks from the center of town and the bus terminal (closed permanently) and several blocks from the beach. All in all, still recommended! Price includes breakfast. CURVELO, BRAZIL Name: Hotel Tres Poderes address: Av. Antonio Olinto 350 Price: $9.50 Rating: Mediocre Reviewed: 1995 Review: Adequate and acceptable hotel conveniently located three blocks from the bus terminal and a few blocks from the downtown area. Rooms are basic, fairly clean (a little dusty) and come with a fan. The walls are dirty and grimy looking. However, the hotel can still be recommended for an overnight stay. |
