IBITINGA, BRAZIL Name: Victoria Park Hotel Address: rua Prudente de Morais 493 Price: $30.50 Rating: Best Reviewed: 1999 Review: Excellent hotel located eight blocks from the bus terminal ($3 by taxi - fair and reasonable price!) and approximately three blocks from the immediate downtown area. Rooms are comfortable, spacious, spotless and come with color tv, air conditioning and a frigo bar. A nice touch is that some of the rooms (mine included) overlook the beautiful city of Ibitinga. Amenities include a swimming pool. Helpful staff. Highly recommended! Price includes breakfast. ILLAPEL, BRAZIL Name: Hotel Alameda Address: Price: $12.50 Rating: Mediocre Reviewed: 1990 Review: The outside of this hotel is a little dingy looking. However, the rooms appear to be nice and include color tv. Recommended! IMBITUBA, BRAZIL Name: Imbituba Hotel Address: Price: $15 Rating: Best Reviewed: 1998 Review: Excellent and quaint hotel located a good distance from the bus terminal by taxi ($4 - okay price and place recommended by a cab driver), a few blocks from the downtown area and a couple of blocks from the beach. Rooms are extremely spacious, spotless, comfortable and come with color tv and a frigo bar (empty). Some rooms (mine included) face the beach. I‘m warmed and endeared to this hotel forever and especially since the desk clerk gave me a $5 discount off the regular already low room rates. The room rates are as follows: Beach front rooms $20 North front rooms $15 South side rooms $12 Rooms with a shared bathroom down the hall $10 Helpful and friendly staff. This is another prime example where price doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with being the best. An excellent value. Highly and enthusiastically recommended! Price includes breakfast. Travel Tip: Imbituba is a quaint beach town with a population of 3,000 with several quaint and inexpensive hotels to choose from. I immediately fell in love with the town and its’ quiet and casual way of life. From seeing a train full of passsengers pulling out of a station with the conductor blowing the horn (they even use real steam here!) to watching a carnival on a lazy Saturday afternoon and hearing the merry-go-round playing ever so dutifully. This town is a delightful and inexpensive way to spend a vacation. Also, there’s a good seafood restaurant on the beach. INDAIAL, BRAZIL Name: Hotel Romer Address: rua Manoel Simao 160 Price: $16 Rating: Mediocre Reviewed: 1998 Review: Adequate hotel located just a couple of blocks from the bus terminal and a good distance from the downtown area (never did find it!). Rooms are somewhat small, clean and come with a fan (still stuffy, though). Want something that cost less? There are rooms available for just $12 with a shared bathroom down the hall. Recommended! Price includes breakfast. IRAI, BRAZIL Name: Hotel Sao Luiz Address: Price: $8 Rating: Best Value Reviewed: 1993 Review: This town boasts several charming and reasonably priced hotels such as this one. Excellent hotel located on the main street and only five blocks from the bus terminal. Rooms are spotless, spacious, simple but yet cozy. A unique feature of this quaint hotel is the unusually high ceiling. Highly recommended! Price includes breakfast. Travel Tip: This very charming and peaceful town of 12,000 located to the extreme north in the state of Rio Grande may very well be one of Brazil’s best kept secrets. In an era where it’s difficult to find unspoiled towns unmarked by the tourism industry, it’s a delight to find one such as this one. If you want peace and quiet, then this is the town to come to. IRATI, BRAZIL Name: Colonial Palace Hotel Address: rua da Noch. 555 Price: $20 Rating: Mediocre Reviewed: 1995 Review: Good hotel conveniently located directly across from the bus terminal and several blocks from the downtown area. Rooms are clean, spacious and come with color tv and a fan. Recommended! Price includes breakfast. Drawback: 1) No clean towels in the room. 2) Not the friendliest hotel I’ve stayed at. ITABUNA, BRAZIL Name: Itabuna Palace Hotel Address: Av. Cinquentenario 1061 Price: $30.50 Rating: Honorable Mention Reviewed: 1994 Review: Good hotel located within walking distance from the bus terminal ($2.50 by taxi - honest price!) and right on the main shopping street in the downtown area. Rooms are comfortable, spotless and come with color tv, fan and a well-stocked frigo bar. Good quality hotel and the best that Itabuna has to offer. Highly recommended! Price includes breakfast. ITAMARAJU, BRAZIL Name: Hotel Maracaia Address: rua Jose Anchieta 65 Price: $14.50 Rating: Mediocre Reviewed: 1994 Review: Good hotel conveniently located a block from the bus terminal and in the center of town. Rooms are clean, spacious (certainly one of the most spacious that I have ever seen) and come with a fan and a fair amount of closet space. There are more expensive rooms available that include color tv and air conditioning. Recommended! Price includes breakfast. ITAPEMA, BRAZIL Name: Hotel Village I Address: Price: $24 Rating: Honorable Mention Reviewed: 1993 Review: Good three star hotel located in a rather expensive resort town located a few blocks from the bus terminal by taxi ($5 - too high!) and situated across from the beach. Rooms are clean and come with color tv, air conditioning and a balcony overlooking nothing really. This hotel seems to be one of the more reasonably priced ones located in this town. Friendly and helpful staff. Highly recommended! Price includes breakfast. ITAPETININGA, BRAZIL Name: Hotel Colonial Address: rua Saldanha Marinho 260 Price: $42 Rating: Honorable Mention Reviewed: 1998 Review: Good two star hotel located a good distance from the bus terminal by taxi ($5 - fair price!) and right in the immediate downtown area. Rooms are fairly spacious, spotless and come with a well-stocked frigo bar, color tv with remote control and a fan. The hotel also has more luxurious types of rooms available for $44, and suites go for a whopping $73. Some rooms (mine included) have the added advantage of having a balcony. Friendly and helpful bellboy (although he could speak only Portuguese). Highly recommended! Price includes breakfast. ITAPEVA, BRAZIL Name: Hotel Colonial Palace Address: av. Epaminondas Ferreira Lobo 197 Price: $33 Rating: Mediocre Reviewed: 1998 Review: Good hotel (the best this city of 82,000 has to offer) conveniently located just a few short blocks from the downtown area one direction and a few blocks from the bus terminal in the other direction. Rooms are clean, spacious and come with color tv and a fan. At the time of my visit, the hotel was having a promotion as the regular price for this type of rooms is $45. Recommended! Price includes breakfast. ITARARE, BRAZIL Name: Hotel Itarare Address: rua S. Pedro 995 Price: $30 Rating: Mediocre Reviewed: 1998 Review: Good hotel (the best this city of 44,000 has to offer) conveniently located just a couple of blocks from the bus terminal and right on the main shopping street of the downtown area. Rooms are fairly spacious, clean and come with color tv, frigo bar and a fan. $45 will get you a luxo type of room with air conditioning. Helpful staff. Very much recommended. Price includes breakfast. ITAUNA, BRAZIL Name: Hotel Ponto Chic Address: Price: $15.50 Rating: Honorable Mention Reviewed: 1995 Review: Very good hotel located a few blocks from the bus terminal and situated across from a park. Rooms are basic, clean, fairly spacious and come with color tv. A few rooms (mine included) have the added advantage of having a balcony overlooking a park. Rooms without color tv and private bathroom are $5 less per night. Friendly staff. Warmly recommended! Price includes breakfast. Drawback: The hotel is right in the center of the city where people like to meet and gather at night. For this reason, expect to hear blaring music and the revving of motorcycle engines late into the night which makes getting a good night sleep very difficult. ITU, BRAZIL Name: Aldebara Hotel Address: Price: $45 Rating: Honorable Mention Reviewed: 1993 Review: Good hotel located a short distance from the bus terminal by taxi ($6) and within a couple of blocks from the downtown area. Rooms are spotless, comfortable, spacious and come with color tv with remote control, frigo bar and a ceiling fan. Wonderful varnished hardwood floors with the scent of cedar. Maybe a bit high in price but still highly recommended. Friendly owner. Price includes breakfast. Advisary: Overcharging is rampant by cab drivers in this city. Taxis don’t have meters installed and he wanted a whopping $9 to take me a short distance to the bus terminal. |
