NAVEGANTES, BRAZIL Name: Hotel Rigo Address: Price: $17.50 Rating: Mediocre Reviewed: 1993 Review: Navegantes is a port city of little interest (beside the small and polluted beach) located just five minutes away by ferry boat from the city of Itajai. Good hotel located several blocks from the center of town ($2.50 by taxi) and three blocks from the beach. Rooms are simple but yet cozy and come with air conditioning (a welcome relief in this hot and dusty town!), black and white tv and a sparsely stocked frigo bar. Very friendly and helpful staff. German more than Portuguese seems to be spoken here. Recommended! Price includes breakfast. NAVIDAD, CHILE Name: Residencial Turismo Address: Price: $3.50 Rating: Best Value Reviewed: 1990 Review: Navidad is a small town with very little interest located just a couple of miles from the coast. Good residencial located within walking distance from the bus stop. Rooms are simple, clean, fairly spacious and don’t come with really anything. Run by a friendly woman. Recommended! NECOCHEA, ARGENTINA Name: Hotel Miami Address: Price: $19 Rating: Mediocre Reviewed: 1991 Review: Good hotel situated near the beach. Rooms are clean and adequate. Recommended! Drawback: Beware of overcharging when paying your bill upon check-out. The woman at the reception desk tried to overcharge me by $10. NOVA ALMEIDA, BRAZIL Name: Praia Hotel Address: Av. Cap Bley 104 Price: $18 Rating: Mediocre Reviewed: 1994 Review: Good hotel located near the bus stop (buses to Vitoria and other nearby beach towns) and in the center of town. Rooms are comfortable, spotless, fairly spacious and come with color tv, fan and a frigo bar (empty). Most rooms (mine included) overlook the beach area. Friendly staff. Recommended! Price includes breakfast. Drawback: The light in the room didn’t work. Since none of the staff spoke English (in order to get it fixed), I went without a light. NOVA BASSANO, BRAZIL Name: Hotel Valdesco Address: Price: $10 Rating: Mediocre Reviewed: 1998 Review: Barely adequate hotel conveniently located across from the bus terminal and in the center (what very little center there is) of town. Rooms are small, fairly clean, barren, dreary and downright depressing and don’t come with anything except a bed, table and chair. The ugly, dirty and marked-up yellow walls are hard to look at. The bathroom is located down the hall. The outside of the hotel looks nicer and that’s what sold me in staying there. However, I think it’s the only hotel in town. Having said all of the above, it probably can be recommended for an overnight stay. Price includes breakfast. NOVA FRIBURGO, BRAZIL Name: Hotel Fabris Address: Price: $16 Rating: Mediocre Reviewed: 1992 Review: Reasonably priced two star hotel located in the immediate downtown area and within walking distance from the bus terminal. Rooms are clean, fairly spacious and include color tv. Friendly staff. Recommended! Price includes breakfast. NOVO HAMBURGO, BRAZIL Name: Hotel Andarsa Address: rua Borges de Medeiros Price: $11 Rating: Mediocre Reviewed: 1996 Review: Simple but adequate hotel conveniently located across the street from the small bus terminal and within walking distance from the downtown area. The above mentioned price is for a room with two twin beds and a sink in it. The bathroom is located down the hall. There are more expensive rooms available for $18 that come with tv and a private bathroom. Most rooms (mine included) have the added advantage of having a balcony overlooking the bus terminal. A pretty decent hotel for the budget minded. Recommended! Price does not include breakfast. Travel Tip: Three blocks away from the above mentioned hotel is a three-story shopping center called Novo Shopping with a variety of stores including a food court on the upper level. NOVA PETROPOLIS, BRAZIL Name: Hotel Petropolis Address: Price: $21 Rating: Honorable Mention Reviewed: 1992 Review: Excellent two star hotel located within walking distance from the bus terminal and the center of town. Rooms are spotless and come with color tv (many channels), fan and a frigo bar. Friendly staff. Besides Portuguese, Spanish and German also spoken. Very peaceful location. Warmly recommended! Price includes breakfast. NOVA PRATA, BRAZIL Name: Hotel Superti Address: Price: $9 Rating: Mediocre Reviewed: 1996 Review: Not too bad of a budget hotel conveniently located a block from the bus terminal and a few short blocks to the downtown area. Rooms are basic, clean, somewhat small and come with a sink. The bathroom is located down the hall. Recommended! Price includes breakfast. NOVA PRATA, BRAZIL Name: Hotel Coroados Address: rua Flores da Cunha Price: $35 Rating: Honorable Mention Reviewed: 1998 Review: Only two hotels in this city of 15,000. Excellent three star hotel located in the center of town and within walking distance from the bus terminal. Rooms are fairly spacious, spotless and come with color tv (very little cable), a well-stocked frigo bar and air conditioning. Most rooms have a balcony overlooking a side street. The lobby is especially attractive with a very relaxing and unique decor. Very much recommended! Price includes breakfast. NOVA VICOSA, BRAZIL Name: Hotel Savassi Address: av. Oceanica 65 Price: $8.50 Rating: Mediocre Reviewed: 1994 Review: One of two basic hotels located very near the bus terminal and within walking distance from the center of town. Rooms are simple, fairly clean (lots of flies!) and come with a ceiling fan. Okay for a very short stay. Price includes breakfast. Drawback: Watch out for small lizards in the room. |
