The Story:

TERRY's KID was formed in late 1998 in Toledo, Ohio - the brainchild of guitarist Jeremiah Kanary, who was in need of a vehicle to perform his expanding catalogue of songs. At the time, Kanary was in a cover band called Abbey Normal, but wanted to start doing his own material. He first recruited friend and fellow Normal bandmate Andy Mosqueda to take over behind the drums. The two made a short demo tape to shop around, but little came of it. Kanary then procured the services of a former high school classmate, bassist Keith Krygielski, whom both he and Mosqueda had worked with previously. The final piece of the TERRY's KID puzzle was put in place when Krygielski contacted fellow Eastern Michigan University student Cory Bogner about taking over the vocal duties from Kanary, even despite Bogner's lack of a musical background.

Soon after Bogner's entrance the band started playing at bars and clubs in and around Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan, to sometimes warm and sometimes hostile reaction. Encouraged by their hit-or-miss performances (paying homage to the "Either make them love you or hate you," attitude), the Kid continued playing out, giving themselves a chance to sharpen their original compositions while honing their skills jamming on their favorite covers.

The TERRY's KID sound, as is the sound of all bands worth merit, was hard to define. It was a sound heavily influenced by Classic Rock & Roll with a twinge of Punk Rock and Metal. But while the band was influenced by the likes of Led Zeppelin, The Who and Tom Waits, the influence wasn't hugely recognizable in their playing. Their sound was unique, strictly theirs alone. Kanary was an amazing guitar player, able to deliver a maddening mix of rhythm and thunderous power chords, which were complimented by Krygielski's amazing bottom work. Mosqueda's skins could go from deliberate to chaotic at any time, but the energy and strength was always there. The whole sound was then rounded out by Bogner's deep, Waits-esque growl.

TERRY's KID recorded only one album, the independently released No S. The band recorded the album in a whirlwind two week session in December of 1999 with producer John Lechman in Toledo and then unleashed it on the public in February of 2000. The rest of 2000 saw the Kid playing out as much as possible all over the Midwest, as well as up and down the East coast, while also shopping around No S (to little avail). The individual members also dabbled with side projects at this time. Krygielski and Mosqueda worked with another Toledo band, Beggars Ride, while Bogner formed The Third Floor Players with two college friends and also guested and collaborated with his friend Brad Early and Early's various bands. Kanary kept busy writing songs for a fictitious Hip-Hop band he was creating, as well as writing a book and working with Bogner on the ill-fated TERRY's KID Mirical Network.

By the middle of 2001 TERRY's KID had lost a bit of steam, but a few months later there were rumors of new life in the Kid, as well as a possible follow-up to No S. This was not to be, however. In November of 2001, Kanary died of a drug overdose at the age of 24. Without discussion or thought, TERRY's KID dissolved on the spot.

Mosqueda recently returned to Toledo and had a daughter, Gwyneth, in 2009. After finishing his residency in Decatur, Illinois, he took a job at the Children's Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. In his free time he has been working on a solo project called Otis. Krygielski, who was married in 2002 and had a son, Miles, in 2006, has been living in Toledo since graduating from Eastern Michigan University in 1999. He has given up the music scene for the most part and after working as a scientist for a major chemical company, is now fully immersed in the Oil business. Bogner, who was also wed in 2002 (since divorced), recently moved from Michigan back to Ohio chasing a job in Journalism. He finished his first novel early in 2006 but was unable to secure a publisher, and, with the exception of occasionally writing songs, has no plans to return to the music business.
