| SOLID STATE TESLA COIL USING ROYER CIRCUITRY |
| Solid state tesla coils are not easy to make, but they can be very spectacular. Particularly, the devices made with IGBTs (insulated gate bipolar transistors) offer a longer spark than the SSTCs with FETs, for the same power input, at a lower work frequency though ( < 100 kHz). That suppose a low resonant frequency secondary system. Solid state offers a few major advantages: they don't use huge HV transformers, run quietly; lightness, beautiful streamers that can be touched by hand at low powers, great RF experiments. My solid state tesla coil uses a Royer circuit with two power IGBTs (BUP314). |
