The driver: the white box contains the fillament transformer (220V/27V) and the multiplier. Above it is a little plastic plate which support the two PL500 tubes connected in parallel and the electronic components of the oscillator.
The TC: the base is a vynil record disc with four metalic legs (screws). The outer coil is the primary with 5 turns of solid copper wire. I tune at 4 turns. The middle coil is the feedback coil with 15 turns of insulated wire. The secondary has 4 cm diameter and 20 cm lenght, with no topload, 800 turns (resonance frequency = 1.31 MHz).
When I light neons I use a little ball at the top HV end made by aluminium foil. Suppresing the spark formation, a lot of energy is radiated as RF field all around the secondary. |
