| IdeaNet Welcome the child! Great ideas and suggestions for parents and churches on how to welcome the child and the family with small children. Our Savior Lutheran Church is very interested in welcoming young families to our congregation. We have built a new addition on to the building for the purpose of accommodating these families better. | Some Suggestions for parents. 1. Bring your child to church regularly. Children feel at home in familiar surroundings, let the church become one. 2.Be sure your child is comfortable before you enter church. Create a routine of a trip to the bathroom and a small drink of water before going in to sit. 3. Talk with then at home about going to church. Explain what church is all about when you are NOT at church. 4. Set a good example. If you speak in a low voice or whisper, even a 2 year old will respond. 5. Bring a few quiet toys. 6. Look for special bulleting puzzles or bring in a pencil for slightly older children. 7. Be sure to have a bottle ready if your baby takes one. 8. Sit close to the front so your child can see what is happening. 9. Teach your child to join in the service. 10. Praise good behavior. |
| How to identify a child friendly congregation! 1. Patient people who enjoy the sound of children in their sanctuary. 2. Are the members helpful. Do they offer service to you or the child? 3. Do the congregation members set good examples? 4. When worship is over do the members speak to you and your child or children? 5. Check into the Sunday School Do they offer programs for all ages? 6. Do you see the Holy Spirit in action around your family as you attend this church? All these questions we feel we want to be very aware of as folks come to visit our church.
