During WW II
the japanese build the infamous "Railway of Death" in order to be able to
support their troops in Burma. The railway was built with prisoners of
war and asian conscripts taking a death toll of over 100 000 men. Today
you can travel by train from Kanchanaburi up close to the burmese
border. Along the River Kwai there are several raft hotels that offers
a scenic lodging.
