I do not particularly like television. It does have it's good points such as TLC, Discovery, the Animal and Cartoon Planets, SciFi, and a few shows between Comedy Central and MTV. However, to some people telivision has become a god of sorts. There are self proclaimed "good" Christians that cannot put the effort into waking up a nine 'o clock on Sunday morning to make it to church, but they will make sure that their schedule does not conflict with watching "Who's Line Is It, Anyway?" I am not saying that watching Ryan and Colin mock Drew is not amusing, but it is such a meaningless and passive way to spend your life. The chow hall, or what everyone else insists on calling the cafeteria, is divided into two sides. One side is nice and quiet with a pleasent atrium or greenhouse feel to it. it is nice and quiet, the kind of room that inspires good conversation. The other side is designed in such a manner that it is imposible not to see one of the multiple, strategically placed televisions. It is impossible to aviold hearing and seeing the mindless tripe that the networks are trying to mold your soft, little consumer mind with. Here you can learn how you should act, talk, and think to be a good little college student. There was a week that the televisions were on the blink in the chow hall. The frightening thing was, even though there was no image on the screens, most people still sat facing their dark, cyclopian gods. |
