Background

Versus started out supposedly as a sequel to Ryuhei Kitamura's earlier work, 'Down to Hell'. Kitamura wanted to shoot Versus the same way its predecessor was made; on video and with a little budget. But as the cast got bigger and the script grew more and more interesting, he realized it shouldn't be Down to Hell 2 anymore. He decided to shoot it on film and make it as a theatrical feature instead. They also changed the old title into what we all recognize now as 'Versus'. Although short on budget, Kitamura took a risk and experimented with his ideas. He poured in stuffs that he loved about movies while growing up like zombies, sword fights, gun fights, martial arts, and also comedy. After a grueling year of shooting and production, their hard work paid off as their premier screening in a local film festival turned out to be a major success. It didn't stop there as it has also received praise from countries as far as France and Germany in their respective movie festivals. As of now, Versus has already achieved worldwide success and recognition.
